Hill Descent Control flashing green

Hi all,

Today someone decided to drive up the back of me while I was waiting to turn at a road junction

I drive a Freelander 05 plate.

As I had only recently fitted a nice chrome spare wheel cover then I was a bit miffed that the bottom was now a shredded mess.

After exchanging details I then drove off only to notice that on the dash the Hill Descent Control was flashing green and has remained that way ever since.

Does anyone know why an impact at the rear would trigger this messsage ? Could it be that the impact has caused additional damage that I am not aware of ?

I should add that it was more a bump than a bang (no airbags deployed either vehicle) and on the face of it appears just damage to the spare wheel cover. However I do know that if the spare wheel gets pushed (by impact) into the tailgate body this can potentially affect the tailgate window dropping/raising. So I checked this and its ok. And the tailgate lock is fine too.

Would welcome any advise on the HDC as the assessor comes out next Wednesday to do his report

Cheers !

John

p.s. I did feel sorry for the other driver as he was driving his wife's car and when she sees the damage to the bonnet..... But then he should have kept his distance. Something I keep hammering on to my wife about as she is a real tailgater !
