Mark Lett Posted January 14, 2015 Share Posted January 14, 2015 My 2004 TD4 is a troublesome car. I bought it from Craddocks 6 months ago and it caused them trouble throughout the warranty period. Recently when going uphill the EML will come on and reduced power. Stop, restart and it clears until the next hill. When it's not on you can press hard with no problem. I've disconnected and reconnected the MAF sensor and there is no effect. Recent Fuel Pump Reg, Alternator, Battery and full service plus Craddocks spent two weeks trying every last thing. ( I fell out with them ?), No fault codes. Please does someone have the answer or any suggestions, other than a can of petrol and box of matches. This car could end my love of Landies. Had the exact fault on a 2002 model, no fault codes after weeks of driving and changing parts I took the leap and fitted a new High Pressure fuel pump vehicle was cured, the funny thing is she only had 8000 or so km's on the clock. The suggestion above to hook up the diagnostic and drive, checking the real live data is good in 2002 it was not possible with the kit available, so do it and see. discomikey Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 codes shouldnt clear themselves they archive until a machine clears it, it does depend if the reader has the ability to see pending codes and stored codes however. when an engine throws the EML and goes into limp it should log a fault. it should also take a snapshot of all the relative engine parameters at the point this fault occurs too, (freeze frame data) if for some reason it has cleared a code (i cant see why it would) then maybe try looking at that. you can get some fairly sophisticated diagnostic apps which communicate by an OBDII bluetooth dongle for not a lot of money. and freelanders are one of the only land rovers of that era which allow a generic code reader to access it, luckily.
