FridgeFreezer
Have you ever changed the crank breather (PCV) filter?

FridgeFreezer
If yours is smoking it might be beyond it, the crank breather filters are often overlooked but if they are blocked bad stuff happens, I can't remember if it starves the turbo of oil or causes a buildup of pressure somewhere...Part is LLJ500010 - DEPRESSION CONTL FILTER ASSY TD4 F/L http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/99148/0/depression_contl_filter_assy_td4_f_l or for cheapness: http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/206390/0/depression_contl_filter_assy_td4_f_l

FridgeFreezer
It's easy really, pop the engine cover off and you can undo the 6 bolts with an allen key or bit, I don't think you really need to remove the air filter cover (which is a pain to do).
