Cynic-al
As you can see in the video mine have a little play in them. http://vid511.photobucket.com/albums/s356/aj_turner/RRC/39/20150326_212429_zpsv5t0qu6u.mp4 I can only find these replacements which seem a little spendy when I need two! http://www.lrdirect.com/ETC6159-Pulley-Air-Con.-Efi/ Anyone know if they have a replaceable bearing or an alternative fix? Cynic-al
is it the same as this? http://www.lrdirect.com/614718-Pulley-Tensioner-3.53.9-V8-Fan-Be/
elbekko
I can't help, but damn that's properly broken!
Cynic-al
It was still running ok, didn't overhead, I'd call this preventative maintenance! Although my fan cowling now has extra vents top and bottom.
Spearos
I have a noisy one on my V8 and iirc they're also used on the TDi (not sure if 200 or 300), anyway my point is you may be able to get a decent second hand one? I did however buy a job lot of V8 bits off eBay a while back and again iirc there was one or two of these in the 2 sacks of bits I collected. I'll have a look if you're interested? I'm sure the bearing is replaceable, my plan was to use one as a 'guinea pig' saving the original one should bearing replacement go wrong! Edit - should have opened the second link!! Cynic-al
Thanks for the offer, waiting for my supplier to come back but if the tdi ones fit I think I'll put new on!
elbekko
If you get a replacement ordered, you could press apart one of the old ones, and take the bearing to a bearing supplier's. Good chance you'll find new bearing for £10. I did this for my 300TDi tensioner many years back.
Cynic-al
There doesn't seem to be anything holding the shaft in the arm, just seems to be pushed in. If I can find a way to hold it I will have a go One of the arms is snapped o I will try with that one.
Cynic-al
I took one apart tonight, it was easy to press the pulley off then the arm off. The bearing is basically the whole shaft... which I carefully opened... The shiny bit goes in the arm, the pulley goes over the bearing housing. Anyone seen a bearing like this before? The outer casing is 28mm od x 27mm long. The bit that goes into the arm is 27.4mm od x 12mm long.
elbekko
That's... special. Never seen anything like that before.
Rangy35
You are more than welcome to borrow my modification to make those bearings "servaceble" http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=85492# Look at photos in post number
Cynic-al
That's a good idea I Thought about boring the pulley out so that an off the shelf sealed bearing could be fitted, there seems to be plenty of meat there? Not sure if i'd get away with a press fit or if it would need some sort of cap or circlip groove making too but I'm sure it's all possible. Think I will buy some replacements then put it on the list of things to have a go at... one day...
Cynic-al
... like this one is shown...
Cynic-al
Just to complete the thread I got 2 of the britpart 614718. From the face of the pulley to the back of the arm is maybe 1mm longer than the ones I took off but they appear to have a standard bearing in the centre so hopefully they will be interchangeable in the future! Bowie69
Buy some matched bearings now, so you can change them out next week when they fail. Think your name has rubbed off on me, but still think I am right....
Cynic-al
Well I figured so long as britpart can supply a cast arm that doesn't crack and a pulley that round I can change a bearing. Fingers crossed!
Bowie69
Indeed, probably cheaper than a genuine part
Cynic-al
Something like £250 vs £30. The former would've doubled the value of the car!
JeffR
Well I figured so long as britpart can supply a cast arm that doesn't crack and a pulley that round I can change a bearing. Fingers crossed! Just remember Britpart once sold me brake pipes with no hole down the middle....So anything is possible.
Cynic-al
Probably designed to stop that spongy pedal feeling!
