thebiglad
Hi all, this week I've been mainly thinking about steering !! Disco '93 TDi200 I've got play in my steering box (steady there!!) and I'm wondering if there is any way I can adjust/shim it out. I seem to remember that there is an adjustment screw on the 4-bolt steering box - anyone got any ideas/experience of this?? Cheers all Dave

Cheers all Dave Yep in the middle at the top there is a 19'ish mm and in the centre there is a flat head or a Allen key head in the middle of the nut. crack the large nut then wind gently in the centre but a little at a time then re-tighten the nut and check for play. and so on If its too tight the steering will go lumpy. when the steering wheel stops returning to centre on its own its too tight and needs slacking off. I find its not a exact science.
RRX
Check the joint just before the steering box, mine seems to come loose and my steering goes very landrovery loose
thebiglad
Check the joint just before the steering box, mine seems to come loose and my steering goes very landrovery loose Thanks to all, have adjusted the alan key locknut combo and the results are great. Did it a bit too tight at first and got lumpy steering, but backed it off a bit and all feels fine now. Equally importantly, I now know how to play about with it if the adjustment needs any further refinement. Thanks very much to all contributors, Cheers Dave
