David Hewitt
Good Morning! Quick question. Are the pistons, rings and liners the same on the 2.5 K V6 as on the K 1.8? Thanks! David,
western
doubt any parts could be swapped, 1.8 K series pistons/rods in http://lrcat.com/37/3/8929#37/4/48081 2.5 V6 http://lrcat.com/#37/4/48159 none of the part numbers match, then I wouldn't expect them to, for 2 completely different engines. Bowie69
I think the 2.5V6 is essentially two 4 cylinder K-series engines glued together at the crank, and a cylinder lopped off each bank. They share the same head gasket issues for sure, just cost twice as much to fix being a V!
David Hewitt
Thanks for the replies, you're right that the part numbers don't match but as Bowie said the two engines are closely related. The V6 is actually called the KV6. In America I've found a place that sell the pistons and say they will fit both engines... http://miamibritish.com/shop/land-rover-piston-rings-assy-set-freelander-1-8l-4cyl-lfl000790l-all-makes/
Tanuki
The engines are "related" - in the same way as, say, a 200TDi and a 2.5NA are "related". This doesn't mean that parts are interchangeable even if they may _look_ similar. (Think materials-specifications, production tolerances etc). Properly built and properly maintained both the 1.8 K-series and the 2.5 KV6 are great! Sadly, in too many instances they came from the factory improperly-built which ruined the reputation of all the vehicles they were fitted to which became 'bargain basement' cars and owners then neglected them further causing even the good-ones to fail. I'd rather have a car with a KV6 under the bonnet than one with the old Rover V8.
