Mmartin1980
Hello all, ive recently bought a 04 plate 1.8 freeelander sport and wondered if i can still tow with it having the propshaft removed? Ive a 24" 1300kg caravan i use for holidays and want to use this to tow Thanks Mat
stuck
I'll ignore the possible jokes about a 24 inch caravan... IMHO at 1300 Kg you would be pushing the towing capabilities of a Freelander in good fettle. Given that yours has been bodged converted to two wheel drive I think you are asking for trouble. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.
Mmartin1980
Oh yeah 24" lmao, nah its not an issue as have option of another vehicle just would have prefered to use my own but would rather find out prior than after
FridgeFreezer
Chances are it'll pull it, but with FWD only & a load on the back it won't like pulling away in the wet (or on grass) and will be nowhere near as stable to drive, which would worry me with a caravan. If it was a flatbed trailer weighing 1300kg I'd be less worried, but caravans can snake easily. It will also knacker your engine mounts much quicker (ask me how I know). tacr2man
Its probably done you a favour being 2wd , as stressing a 1.8 with towing is not the best idea !
