Fuse17 P38

Have some issues with the electrics on the P38

The message centre tells me that fuse 17 is blown but there is no evidence of it. The speedo and rev counter no longer operate either.

Any ideas or is this a case of Auto Electrician?

What do you mean by 'no evidence'? The fuse looks and meters out as OK? Or simply that you cannot find anything that isn't working?

The ETM gives different functionality for fuse 17, depending on whether the vehicle is wired pre or post 1999, which is yours?

Have you put a meter on the fuse, or examined the fuse, and its socket, for corrosion?

Also look at MF4 for condition, corrosion, etc, as this is the fuse that supplies F17.

Almost certainly an internal fault in the BeCM , had the same on one recently fuse 6,7 & 17 failed on dash display , fuses all ok but minimal

voltage on supply side of fuse board on the side of the BeCM . 17 is gearbox iirc , is it in limp mode (3rd gear) ?

You can test this by running a live from one of the ring terminals thru a fuse and into the service side of 17 fuse position

As for recon BeCM's ....good luck . I've not had a good time trying to get the one above sorted out ......it's running fine with the above wiring mod on each fuse

cheers

Looks like F17 is related to the brake lights.

Did the fuse error and the speedo problems start at the same time?

Definitely check the ground of the instrument cluster (E0564, behind RH footwell trim panel). That spot is known for water infiltration screwing up contacts in the connectors there.

Yes but I shorted out the radio by mistake because the connector became dislodged and touched earth.
