110 Dom Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Hi As well as my 110 project vehicle I currently have a 5dr 2005 1.8 xei freelander. The drivers side rear passanger door has a problem with the electric window that I need to fix. When operating the button in either direction the motor whirrs and clunks and the window does not move. You can manually slide the window up and down by pushing on the glass so somehow its not connected to something inside. I started to investigate....I removed the doorcard and neatly cut some of the plastic film near the white motor unit. I could see a frayed end of steel wire that looks like it has either broken or come free from its clamps if it is clamped which I am only guessing. The bolts for the motor unit seem to be secured from the inside of the door and I am not really too sure what to dissasemble next to get to where I need to be. Does anyone have any tips or manual instructions on what else to disasemble and how to fix?? I have seen comments on other posts about wire replacement kits, does this sound like what I may need and how can I determine if this is the case. Any help greatly appreciated. (if you have one rear passenger they often sit on the other side so that they can see the driver) It doesn't get used enough and starts sticking and then the mechanism breaks. I replaced the regulator unit (ie the winding mechanism) for about £80 on mine. It wasn't too difficult, just a bit fiddly, but you will need to remove the regulator either to fix or replace it. marty1a Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Easier sometimes to buy a replacement - I got mine from http://electricwindowsdirect.co.uk/ a lot lot cheaper than others. Download rave and that will give you how to take the window apart. 110 Dom Posted June 7, 2010 Author Share Posted June 7, 2010 thanks guys, I would say its the wire kit as opposed to the regulator as it still rotates ok in either direction but more dissasembly is required. Guest Posted June 7, 2010 Share Posted June 7, 2010 I did both on my wifes freelander, brought the kit without taking the regulator out first, so wasted my money there... It's really easy to remove iirc 3 13mm bolts pops it out sliding it through the door, although it will only come out one way!! on the two I used the end plastic bit was broken off, it looked like the wire was broken but this was just a result of the plastic fracturing so worth looking first. I had to cut the plastic lining off the door and then unbolted the unit, I taped the window to the frame to stop it droping and me breaking it. after a bit of back and forward it came out of the back hole... I will have a look in the morning I may still have the "repair kit" if I can find it you can have it, hope you are lucky and it is just this as I said both of hers were the stupid plastic ends.. Here is a video of me fixing my freelander drivers side rear electric window, probably be applicable to quite a lot of different cars as well. The motor was seized and the brushes worn. Zero cost. Took the drivers door card off today as the cable was frayed in the door and making an awful sound as the window moved up or down. Cut the frayed strands out but now the bloody window wont close fully....the last inch stays open! What did you do to fix yours??
