Power steering a series 1 push pull type

You still haven't read my build thread I take it? I have had exactly that fitted to my 80". Wouldn't recommend it though, unless its used for slow offroading only. The problem is that this system has a bit of slack built into it to operate (the valve on the cylinder) and this combined with all the other slack and general bad designing of the Series steering system makes for terrible roadholding. And to add to this, the cylinder has more power to one side than the other (all single ended rams have this problem) So all in all I know you have a galv'ed chassis and would hate welding to it, but in all honesty it is well worth it to get some proper steering. It has transformed my car completely, Everyone that has driven it says so too.

The column systems put a hell of a strain on the steering box and relay. The relay should be OK if it's genuine, but pattern parts tend to shear, but the rocker shaft fork in the box will probably snap. I don't think it's viable.

I have just fitted a P38 system (using Defender upper column and steering wheel), and the vehicle handles almost identically to before (I had rebuilt the SIII steering from scratch with gen parts), with a little less wander, but is feather light. It makes for really easy but predictable steering - I can turn the wheel from lock to lock with just my little finger while parked.

I'm sure it could, but again you would not be eliminating any of the bad stuff in the setup, and furthermore, it is not uncommon to break stuff in the steering (relay or steeringbox) by just the power of your arms. But sure if you wanted something that was easily reversible and only ran stock size tyres, mostly on road and was mindful about it, it would be an option :)
