creedo Posted March 17, 2014 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I don't want to sound thick but does my 99 freelander have abs because it has just failed its mot because the light didn't come on , on the dash ,the mechanic said because the prop shaft has been taken off this is the problem? EggNChips Posted March 18, 2014 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Yes it must have ABS if it failed because the tell tale indicator on the dash is inoperative. Chech the bulb first, but I would suspect that someone has removed the bulb because it was on. The propshaft won't cause the light to go on or off. FridgeFreezer Posted March 18, 2014 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Not all of them had ABS, my '98 didn't. Usually I'd expect the warning light to stay on if it was fitted & not working. Look under the bonnet for an ABS valve block connected to the brake system, they're bolted behind the headlight on the offside (or that's where mine is anyway). If memory serves, if you have ABS you have HDC too, so if you've got a yellow button on the gearstick you should have ABS, if not you probably don't have ABS. The rear prop has nothing to do with it, and will not affect the ABS - I've driven tens of thousands of miles in my TD4 with no rear prop and the ABS has never complained, and it passed an MOT like that.
