fuel starvation

When starting my freelander 1.8 XCI after going on a journey it wouldn't start for about 10 minutes. This went on for about 10 journeys more. It eventually didn't start at all and I called out the RAC who said that the plugs were dry so the fuel wasn't getting through. He couldn't fix it so towed me to a garage who said it might be the head gasket even though the RAC man told them about the fuel. The pump is fine so I would like to know where to look now? How do you check the fuel line or the injectors, any ideas?
