Glue

So fixing, we hope, one problem on the trailer, we have another.

The camping mat is held to the roof by sticky back Velcro. Sticks to the roof fine but it's dropping away from the camping mat. We don't want to glue the mat direct to the roof, so, suggestions as to what the re-glue the Velcro to the mat. Or the mat to the Velcro.

Contact adhesive. I use alphabond, but I guess any brand will do. Make sure to follow the instructions and it'll make a strong bond

I agree, just make sure both mating surfaces have the residue of the previous glue removed as much as possible and the waiting time before contact is observed.

No and no and no...

Use VHB tape. All my velcro stuck with anything other comes off. I've used Contact, Sikaflex, Glue Gun, High Bond Velcro Industrial strength.

ONLY VHB keeps it in place. And if it gets warm, which it will mike, you know how warm. The glues all loose adhesion. Really they do. Mine is only holding some curtains up.

VHB and you know I love the stuff, works....get the 0.6mm version. follow the cleaning with alcohol part before applying. Leave maybe 24 hours. put it on the velco and press in on hard and leave it overnight.

Just checked its RP16 you want as its 0.4 mm thick.

0.6mm might be more useful for other jobs though.

I can't post the link for some reason...Google VHB RP16 and it will come up on the 3M site.

Its the second search result in Google. The Datasheet.

I do remember you tried to steal my roll when we visited......you'll not regret buying it !

Not 100% how it is all set up Mike, but I would suggest Margaret get her sewing kit out and sew the velcro through the camping mat and some 1" webbing (B+Q) as a backing. This should result in satisfaction, though the fixing method will be apparent...

...edited to add, perhaps she could take the opportunity to add some 'buttoning', for that Chesterfield look.

Not me, but is is pretty flimsey stuff and would certainly to through an industrial or leather workers machine - might be OK with a domestic machine run slowly with a good needle and hand assistance but I expect it is too thick. Perhaps a needle and thread - and a good thimble!
