clifton
Hi Guys Please could I have your views on replacement fuel tanks. I was cleaning the existing one its 20 years + when the seam just started to weep. The more mud I brushed off the worse it got. I am now considering my options. I have heard that Britpart are a poor fit and that the Bearmach don't last many years. LR genuine are a bit dear but might be worth the investment I am interested in any advice, what you have done, where you bought it and how much it cost and if anyone has tackled a repair to the original. Thanks Howard
Scooby Jim
I had mine pressure tested and welded by a local company who does Radiators and Petrol Tanks.
Team Idris
(you did say 'any advice') What about going MAD? On the S1 I rammed in the normal lightweight landy tank, as there is little cheap choice. But that's an easy option on something that takes standard parts. But the race truck doesn't, so I have a 2mm ally tank inside an ally box with 3mm sides and 4mm bottom (5083 grade). That puts it in a position where you can jack the truck up under the fuel tank. I'm not suggesting that you need to reduce the fuel load by having a twin skin tank, but a thick bottomed ally tank from someone like Allysport would last a very long time if it were marine grade anodised? And you could drive over anything you fancied
Snagger
If it's just a porous seam, why not use the POR15 tank sealing kit from a vendor like Frosts?

Snagger
I haven't tried it myself, but I've only heard good things about the POR15 kit.
