hi

thanks for the reply

took thermostat out and tested in hot water found to be ok

i think i have 2 problems with cooling side

when i looked under bonnet with engine running

found that fans are running all the time (vehicle has no air con)

so i think that is the first part

mine is a x reg 2001 year has it got a Fuel Burning Heater ?

if so where can i find it and can i test it?

i believe there is a ecu to control the cooling side mounted on the radiator itself (right hand side) is there a way to test this

regards david

If you find you have a FBH then you can 'test' it if you're not sure its working but you will need a can of compressed air....why i hear you all ask!

1stly get your compressed air (must be an aerosol not from compressor) - i find computer air duster is excellent.

2 Locate the temperature switch behind the off side lower bumper grill. It looks like a small cylinder on a bracket.

3 Turn your engine on

4 Turn the air duster aerosol upside down - be careful now - and aim the aerosol at the sensor.

5 The aerosol will throw out its liquid contents, which evaporate, and freeze. This cools the sensor

6 The heater then thinks B me its cold and switches in after a few moments!

If you get really brave and decide to investigate the FBH further DO NOT disconect the wires to it whilst it is in operation - it is designed to run with its own cool down cycle and will continue to run after you switch off the engine for a short time.
