Igol
Ive just started a timing belt change on my old tdi and fallen at the first fence. Whichever chimp fiddled with the fan in the past has rounded the nut so badly my 32mil spanner just slips off. Anyone got any suggestions for getting the bloody thing off?? I've already accepted that its going to need a new one.
SPendrey
When I had issues removing mine, a fairly long cold chisel and a lump hammer did it. Of course, the nut was ruined, but the fan did come off.
Bowie69
Yup, chisel. Or an adjustable if you can get it in there.
Igol
Im reaching the same conclusion. Fine adjusting tool and chisel looks like the way to go.
qwakers
i went with angle grinder..... but i needed a new waterpump and fan anyway.....
Igol
A few light taps (ahem) and the nut came of with about 2 mil of its body. Then, as they tend, to unscrewed easily. New belt is on for the second time as forgot to undo the pump locking nuts and ended up with the woodruff key at 1230ish and one tooth out on the other mark. So I'm about to stick the cover back on (less fan ) and see if she fires up this time.
SPendrey
Good luck! I'm tempted to (or rather I should) the timing on my Disco 300Tdi... no idea when it was last done and just clocked over 150K so well past the standard 70k change.
