Advice on ebay purchase

Hi,

Sorry to ask this here but i'm sure some of you will have experienced something similar.

Earlier today i bought and paid for an injector pump on ebay from a seller with 100% positive feedback, few hours later i received an email saying:

"hi, thanks for buying the injector pump. ebay says you have paid but my paypal hasnt shown it. i am just wondering if it would be possible for you to cancel the transaction then put it into my main paypal account

thanks and i will get it sent out as soon as the funds have cleared, if you txt or email me your mobile number ill send the paypal address. "

I'm a bit wary of doing this because in the past refunds have taken nearly a month to come through and i can't afford to pay a second time and wait for the first refund.

Can anyone offer any advice on what i should do? I have contacted him giving him the e-mail address paypal told me the money was sent to, just in case he can access it still and avoid the problem.

Thanks

Dave

Seems a bit fishy, to be covered by the buyer protection I believe you need to pay to the address provided by the seller on the listing.

Should this address not be setup then it will go unclaimed until added to a paypal account (I had an issue myself as a seller removing an email from paypal that was still live on a listing). If you have more than 1 paypal account then you can just shunt money between them as a gift transfer (your hardly going to con yourself) so I can't initially see where the seller is coming from with this request.

If you go into your paypal does it give a status on the funds I.e uncleared?

He probably has an outstanding debt on one account so can't access any funds in it. I doubt you will see any money back. Although he might be genuine you lose buyer protection and it looks like I may have been stung by that quite recently thinking that someone was genuine...

But i have ebay buyer protection on the first transaction so can claim that back successfully?

Then the second payment, as long as the money is sent as payment for goods or services, i can open a case to claim a refund if it still doesn't turn up as paypal view it as a seperate transaction?

Or have i missed something?

Getting a bit frustrated as i need the pump asap, so far i have opened a case with paypal to return the money from the first transaction, i'm a little reluctant though to send the money to the other address provided, mainly because it means i will be out of pocket until the refund is issued for the first transaction (could take up to 30 days).

Thanks for the advice though guys, i will fire off an email to paypal and see what they suggest, i can't envisage a problem getting a refund for the first transaction as i have not received the item and if the account holder doesnt respond in the 10 day period they're given, paypal should rule in my favour.

Cheers

Dave

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a very similar situation with a purchase on a exhaust for my mx bike. I paid and it didn't show on the blokes account. I canceled and repaid using the web thing. It worked that time. I guess he's trying to avoid the paypal fees and possibly if he's a newish seller it will take 21 days to clear his account. I have that problem at the moment and I can see the money but can't access it for 21 days and it's not like it's earning any interest etc.
