Glenlivet
Hi guys. Recently bought a Freelander TD4 with 100,000 on the clock. Whilst it has no symptoms of a problem with the VCU, I'm thinking of having it changed. Bell Engineering offer a recon unit fitted for £320 including bearings. Does anyone have any knowledge of this company? The price seems very reasonable.
Fatboy
If the VCU is seized, you'd know it because it would really not be happy on tight corners. If you are replacing the VCU it makes sense to replace the two bearings and the universal joints which need to come off to get the VCU off. That lot adds the best part of another £50.... FridgeFreezer
Bearings would / should add more than £50, genuine ones are about that much each and non-gen aren't worth a fart. Worth having them done by Bell at the same time. My VCU came from bell and it's been fine (or is this my 2nd? I lose count...)
Glenlivet
Thanks for the info guys. Mine is not showing any symptoms of VCU problems yet but I was considering preventative surgery. Think I'll hang fire for a while and keep a close eye on the situation. The £320 includes bearings and donating the replaced VCU to Bell for reconditioning.
