Mew
Hi, Can anyone tell me the exact location of the Engine coolant temperature sensor? RAVE tells me, "The ECT sensor is located in the engine block at the front of the engine." Does that mean the side nearest the radiator or the offside engine compartment? I have looked all over but cannot see it, if someone can give me an idiots guide to where it is and what may need to be taken off to access it easier that would be great. I have Googled it and there are lots of pictures pertaining to where it should be but nothing conclusive yet. Many thanks in advance. FridgeFreezer
Looks like you have to remove the inlet manifold to even see it:

Mew
Well, I removed the inlet manifold and replaced the ECT. This I hoped would cure my problem of blue smoke on startup and once the engine was warm a missfire and rough running. Before you suggest, I have replaced the engine breather! When I took the manifold off I noticed there was a oil on the face of the head around the inlets as though the gaskets weren't sealing. One in particular was worse. I cleaned up all the faces around the inlets so there would be a good seal. Turning to the inlet to clean the faces and gaskets of that I noticed that one of the cover top adaptors was missing an insert. It had not dropped off when I removed it, I was very careful with that. I am assuming someone has had the manifold off in the past and lost it, I decided to move one from the end and fit it in the middle missing one. After reassembly and first startup I was supprised to see no blue smoke and a long run, well long for the Isle of Wight, the engine felt better with no missfire. The big test will come tomorrow with a startup from cold. The question is, is there anywhere that sells these inserts, for those that don't know they are like a rubber washer with a metal washer bonded to the top. I have looked on the usual sites but found nothing yet, or do I actually need one? Thanks for reading, Mew
