Freelanderflipper
Hello This is my first post to the forum and I would be grateful if someone out there is able to point me in the right direction regarding a problem with my Freelander. I own a Freelander 1 TD4 HSE (06 model) – in the last few months it has developed a problem which is driving me nuts! When I hit 50 – 70mph the car starts to pull. This only last for a few seconds but happens quite a few times whilst travelling down the motorway. Ordinary short journeys to work, shops etc are fine it just seems to be as soon as I hit the motorway. I’ve taken the car to a Land Rover dealer who wired it up to a computer and could not find any faults. I’ve also had another garage look briefly and they neither can find anything wrong. When the problem first developed I thought it was the wind pulling the car but now I know there is something not quite right. My Freelander is sluggish when it is pulling but eventually settles down and I continue with motorway speeds. I’m not quite sure what to do – I have booked the car in for a full service and asked the garage to replace the fuel filter. If that doesn’t make much difference I will replace the fuel pump but I obviously do not want to throw money away and still have the problem. My Freelander has done approx. 89000 miles so I imagine it is time to change the fuel filter / pump anyway? A small service was done earlier this year. Can anyone help? Thanking you in advance…
qwakers
what do you mean by pulling? is it pulling to one side? slowing down suddenly? speeding up with no throttle input?
Freelanderflipper
Not pulling from side to side - with my foot on the accelerator the car is sluggish - seems to loose power and is sticking and then the next moment it is ok? This seems to be only after hitting 50mph +
Litch
My wife had something vaguely similar when she bought her three year old 2006 TD4 HSE. Despite the full main dealer service history it was definitely "sluggish" plus there was oil staining all over the intercooler hoses. I gave it a full service (something which I suspect the main dealer had never done despite charging for it) plus replaced the crankcase breather (something I KNOW the main dealer had never done). I also replaced the intercooler hoses as they were so heavily oil soaked. Performance was restored immediately and since then I have replaced the crankcase filter annually (up until when I fitted the BMW unit last year) and the intercooler pipes have remained completely clear since. EggNChips
I had a very similar experience with a TD4, on motorway journeys it would not pull and gradually lose power. A friend eventually fixed it and it turned out to be the turbo actuator sticking. Think it was overboosting and the ECU would gradually cut power.
