strewth
Hi - please can you help? Took advantage of a bit of early autumn sunshine to finally get some underseal on the discovery. Happily painting away between sips of tea when the brush...went through the chassis. Hole is on driver's side, just forward of the rear wheels, there's a tubular cross member that connects the two chassis rails, each end is attached to a plate that is then boxed in to the top of the chassis rail by a sloping piece of plate. That sloping piece of plate is mostly gone and so is the top of the chassis rail.) To my naive eyes this looks really (REALLY) bad. Can anybody tell me just how catastrophic it is? Is this going to fail MOT in a big way? Is it save-able? I'd be struggling if it had to go. Picture attached Thanks in advance for any advice can offer. Quagmire
Rust within 30cm of a suspension component was a fail I thought. Someone more knowledgeable will be able to confirm!
pete3000
where is the hole? (arrow or circle might help) if its the area above the shock that's the body, which is separate from any chassis problems. Probably easier to patch/repair as well. Doesn't look too bad but cant really see much from photo, any chance of some more for a better idea?
rich broom
Not fail. But straight forward enough to weld a nice 3mm plate on. If that's the only bit, it's well savable
Nigelw
http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=79562&p=716024 I had similar, once upon a time.

SPendrey
Fail or not, and I suspect it is a fail, it'll mean the MOT man has a good hard prod around the whole vehicle... possibly (maybe probably) finding other bits where the tin worm has fed. strewth
Gents, thank you for all the replies. Sorry the picture wasn't the best. NigelW - yes, it looks just like yours. I'll copy your method and take a bit of floor out to get to it. Disaster averted. Thanks again.
