rebuilding LT77 with stumpy R380 input shaft

Quick one folks:

An LT77 box is 1 inch shorter than an R380

A 'stumpy' R380 comes with a belhousing (FTC4018) and an input shaft (FTC5056) that is 1 inch shorter than those on the LT77 4-cyl box to make it a direct replacement. These have recently gone back into production so the parts while not cheap, are available.

NB I'm only looking at the main boxes, excluding transfer box for the time being.

So could a LT77 be rebuild with the 'stumpy' R380 components in order to get the shortest possible 5-speed box? (i.e. 30mm shorter than a standard Lt77).

Appreciate its a full rebuild to change the components.

I don't have both bell housings in front of me so can't tell if the bolt pattern is the same, also don't have the pinions but from photos online they look to be pretty much identical - both 21 teeth.

Good shout, thanks - I'll give Dave a call nd will check the parts analogues for bearings in the meantime. Might save an inch if it works.

Re: the bell housings - it was the bolt pattern for the bell housing to mainbox I'm not sure about (rather than bell housing to engine)

Bearings size and synchro size is different between R380 and lt77. I tried to the the reverse, put an lt77 pinion into a r380.

There might be some late lt77's with larger bearings (super rare) but the synchro in the r380 is much larger so still not compatable.
