Lorrick
Afternoon all Fired up the trusty beast this morning -9 (Suffolk UK) and it took a few cranks to get it to start, I am assuming it has Glow Plugs rather than an excess fuel system, There is no dash light to say that the Glow plugs are on or available. should there be a normal Filament symbol light or something else ? Tanuki
In a TD5 there *is* a 'glowplug light' - an amber symbol with a spiral. Note that it's _not_ a traditional glowplug-light. It doesn't actually indicate whether the glowplugs are active! it's more a "wait until I go out then try and start me" light. The glowplugs are controlled by the ECU, which takes signals from the engine- and ambient-temperature sensors. The ECU may choose not to fire the glowplugs even if the 'glow' light is on. It may choose to keep the glowplugs energised for some time after the light has gone out/the engine has started, in order to reduce emissions. Also remember that the TD5 only has four glowplugs - so in ++cold weather it may start on 4 cylinders and take quite a few seconds for the fifth cylinder to light up! --Tanuki. Lorrick
Thanks Tanuki (you don't seem like a Japanese trickster or evil spook :-) ) I will have to look into it as there was no dash light and it didn't seem that any glow-plugs where working at all ? Thanks Richard
Lorrick
Weird thing, all the lights have started working on the dash, some I have never seen before when I turn on the ign, but I now have a fuel pump whine to sort out.
