Mo Murphy
You'll find that this type of problem is usually down to poor earthing. Locate and clean up your earthing points and I suspect you will find all is well. HTH Mo
islandbluenose
Ok. I'll try that. Thanks.
mickeyw
I agree with Mo, it's most likely an earthing issue. Pay particular attention to the instrument earthing wires - they're often secured to the instrument clamp bracket, which in my experience can come loose over time. western
there's a bunch of black earth wires near the brake servo, bolted to bulkhead, clean those up too, if you haven't done so already.
Retroanaconda
I bought a 110 once and driving it home I was concerned that the temperature gauge was reading a bit high, even pulled over a few times to let it "cool down" to no avail. Then sitting at a junction indicating I realised that the gauge was bouncing in time with the indicators! I could alter the temperature by adding or removing various electrical loads - lights, heater etc. I looked underneath when I got home and there was a small-ish lead from the battery negative hanging down near the sump with a ring terminal on it, and one of the sump bolts had a witness mark around it so I put it on there and from then on no problems. Never seen such a lead on any other Land Rover but it did the job here, I can only presume that there had been a problem with the main earth strap at some point and a previous owner had put this earth lead on as a fix, and then forgotten to re-attach it after having the sump off for some reason. Prith
Am having the same problem. Where are all the earthing points on a
Jode
The battery earth points are at the transfer box IIRC; the lights earth "locally"; the instruments behind the binnacle I think. They're all over the place....
western
Earth from battery to main gearbox to transfer box joint & a thick earth lead from chassis part of left engine mount to the alternator & power steering pump bracket on engine block for 200tdi engines
