Shutler1
Evening all, so I am now part way through my 90 truck cab project, and am now contemplating fitting a stack exhaust, mainly because I think it would look and sound cool. What are peoples thoughts on stack exhausts? Pros, cons, would you do it to your own if you could? Also if anyone has done this, any pics would be great. Tanuki
IMHO such things may "look/sound cool" but they attract entirely the wrong sort of attention. Keep it quiet; Keep it discreet. Then you can happily hunt BMWs and Mercedes at 80+ MPH in the outside lane of a motorway and not get a ticket.
Shutler1
80+??? Haha, I'd be lucky, I think i top out at about 65 on a good day. Not sure why tho, it's been chipped , probably due to the size of the tyres
miketomcat
What truck/ engine do you have as if 65 is all you can get I'd be spending my money improving that first. Have a 90(45) with a noisey exhaust I will be quieting it down next time as it's really draining on long trips and quite antisocial on the morning commute. A stack will need either a ting ting on the top or a drain at the lowest point. Mike
Shutler1
I have a 2003 chipped TD5, truck cab, 3 inch lift running 35s used to do easy 80 before the lift and the tyres. Accelerates well just backs off when it gets to 65 ish
Retroanaconda
Exhausts are generally designed to be as quiet as possible. Making one deliberately loud is kind of like drilling holes in your roof to let some rain in. But then with a 3" lift and 35" tyres I imagine comfort and the like is not high on your list of priorities
robertspark
Or search for best ever sounding defender v8 on YouTube .... Black truck cab 90... Not for me thanks. Different strokes for different folks. Quite happy to have a wolf in Sheep's clothing.
Shutler1
Don't think mine will ever sound like that being a diesel. Not really fussed about noise as such as the landy already has a straight through exhaust on it. Surprisingly retro even with the lift and tyres it's not too bad on the road. But then I never bought any of my lands for comfort.
Shutler1
After watching that video I have now completely changed my mind. I will not be having a stack exhaust. Looked a bit naff on that one.
Tanuki
I'd be much more interested in seeing how well it tows 3.5 Tons on a flatbed for a few hundred miles.

Nigelw
Such a shame that the poor 90 has to be heard be heard a long time before it is see, I think I would be hart broken if it were mine, the cool factor is there but the noise wouuld drive me bonkers after the first 5kms :-(
MECCANO
Don't do it.... you will soon get p#$$#d off with the drone, and will attract every 1.1L Saxo and Bmw to your back end within a 10 mile radius. I cant wait to replace mine!
FridgeFreezer
What meccano said - my 109 is quieter than it's been for a long time and it's still way too loud for going any sort of distance, moving around at unsociable hours without annoying the neighbours, turning up at a campsite without disturbing the normals, passing any police anywhere without being pulled over / checked out, etc. etc.
Happyoldgit
Leave the stack exhausts to the likes of Kenworth and Freightliner
