Charging battery without disconnecting?

Only when using 'reconditioning' to bring a depleted battery back to life do I disconnect it from the vehicle. I don't take it out, just disconnect the earth when hooking up the Ctek. Works pretty well and kept several batteries going beyond expectations.

When charging normally the Ctek will give a high enough voltage for the relay to keep both batteries connected. Not sure about the special functions though, like disulphate, trickle, recondition... I think the change in load when the split charge connects or disconnects will have an effect on the charging process. But the type I know has an override to keep both batteries connected regardless of voltage, so that should work provided the combined capacity of the batteries isn't (much) higher than the rating of the Ctek.

my Ctek came with a fly lead and a moulded plug so it appeared that the fly lead with eyelet terminals was to be bolted to the battery terminals and the fly lead via the moulded plug to be left on trickle charge.
