Looking for 110 horn

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, so, the horn on my defender 110 ( 2001 version) has recently decided to go all feeble like. It works from the stalk, but there is a sense it is either got faulty wiring or some problem in its volume. Regardless, my first problem however, is where is the horn located on the body of the Defender. I read different things, offside and or near side headlamp area, behind the front grill. Is there someone who can tell me exactly where and save me some time searching here and there. Oh, if you have an idea as to what is causing the problem then that would be helpful too. I can say that the relay under the drivers seat appears to be doing its job: which is probably evident given there is some noise from the horn.

Thank you Recovery Man. I'm assuming it's the drivers side your pointing me to, and hopefully when I get to it tomorrow it isn't a lengthy job? Can I pick your brains, too, about another fault? And for anyone else that happens across this thread. The last few days have seen the heater making a loud whirring noise when the setting is onto full. The air is being put through the respective vents of choice, although albeit not necessarily warm when set to heat. The noise appears to be coming from the floor plan area, or under. Any ideas on fix?

Stick one of the Stebel Nautilus horns on as well. The kit has all the gubbins so it fires up with the normal horn and is loud enough to make hedgehogs sprint. They were off the market for a bit and fetching silly money but are back now and I paid £35 for mine off ebeblay. The combination of the asthmatic LR horn plus the Stebel is magnificently two-tone!

Any horn will do if ye don't want to spend money, scrap yards are full of them.

As for your old one - they do start to fail and just loose the sound a bit as they are blasted with dirt and water for their life and most hardly get used, then when you want them they turn limp. Not what ye need when you are looking to warn someone.

heater unit is in the engine bay against the bulkhead rear left corner if it's a UK or Right hand drive vehicle, air gets blown into the lower dash duct & out to footwells via the 2 vents above your feet or up to windscreen vents on top of dash, motor/fan might have something flapping around in the air intake on top of the wing, remove the grille & make sure the intake duct is all clear & clean. if not hot air when engine up to working temp, maybe your thermostat needs replacing.

read the quoted post number 3 in this thread, Cashpat asked about the heater unit, hence why I quoted the post, keep up Mr Frax :rtfm:

Recovery Man: as you had suggested, I removed the air intake on the wing, and found in the tube receiving air from there, what appears to be a piece of black (sound-deadening?) sponge. Removed that and removed the previously reported whirring noise. My hat has been tipped in your direction.
