found some well known (hottenberger???) tube formers at work, the 1 1/2inch had a measurement between the side walls of 46mm(roughly)
it sounds stupid- but would this be used to bend 48mm OD tube?
The 2" former was very slack-
I can see an advantage and disadvantage using the 11/2inch former and 48mm OD tube- the pipe will fit snuggly into the former but will the tube grease into the former
your advice needed, as i have the chnce of some formers now- not from work

2" is probably for 2" pipe etc.
Even if a 1 1/2" former measures bigger - I would guess at it still being for 1 1/2" pipe.
It follows that you need a 48mm former for 48mm Pipe?

Did you measure how deep the former was? As you say 1.5" is just over 38mm so that does sound slack.
How does the machinethat the formers are for work? Is there another (straight) half to the former that sits inside the curved half? If so, then the clearence couls be for that.
I would go with Si, in that a 1.5" fromer is for 1.5" pipe, and 48mm tube would need a former marked as 48mm...

1 1/2" and 2" refer to the nominal bore of gas pipe, therefore, 1 1/2" is 48mm and 2" is 60.3mm.
