Full Version: Driving Day - Wellington 31 May 08
LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum > The Lounge > Getting out and about
JST
We had the last Bampton Drive Round Day (DRDs) on Sunday with J33P and now its time to give the tracks a rest and move back to the Wellington site. DRDs will start with the first one on 31 May 08. There are currently 6 places available. The day is an escorted convoy drive across private land on purpose made tracks and typically starts at 1030hrs with a 1530/1600hrs finish. All the sections are optional with bypass routes as required depending on your ability/experience/preference.

Quite a few from here have completed the days in the past and enjoyed their time out with us, you can read about the days from the event writeup here by choosing any of the Wellington Site reports.

Your vehicles must be road legal and comply with my vehicle requirements.

There are previous posts and pictures here.

The days are £35 per vehicle and you must pre register which can be done by emailing or PMing me for an entry form .

Hi James,

Yes please- will send £30 to use up the £5 credit if that is ok? I think my vehicle should just about comply with the requirements! (Still won't stop me getting stuck!)

Where are we doing breakfast??

I'd like to attend if possible. I am on the hunt for MTs as we speak and I should have them by then, but if I can't get them fitted to my rims in time or for any other reason I can't get my act together, would I be allowed to use the Special Tracks? If not, and I don't have the new tyres, can I marhsall or something?
When do you want payment by?

As a total offtopic but not worth a new post, where is a good place to get tyres fitted/balanced? I paid Land Rover for it last time and it wasn't cheap.
tpk241
JST,

Payment made ... thanks

Looking forward to it ..

James just for planning purposes... I may still not have a functioning winch by then (problem a little more expensive than first thought!)... Not sure if that makes a difference to routes etc?

I think James is away at the moment for a couple of weeks.

As for the route, when I led a group on the last DRD there were bypasses to all the obstacles. Plus there is always somone to pull you in either direction. I shouldn't worry to much about it.
ThreePointFive
You won't be the only one without a winch... unsure.gif
JST
rest assured you wont need winches unless you take all the options and then get it wrong!

as Mark says i am off this pm though so probably wont reply for a while from then!
tpk241
James,

My name needs to be added to that list mate

Thanks

The weather for Thursday-Sunday is meant to be good according to the MET office site... At least the ground won't be dry and boring and we won't get soaked either, perfect!
I'm looking forward to it.
Milemarker Type S
Head gasket is done- though I think I have killed my turbo as per the thread in International.

James I am intending on heading up in any case- turbos are for wimps anyway blink.gif

Since I looked we've had 4 weather warnings, so I'm not sure..
Milemarker Type S
The magic of a self healing turbo... No idea why but it now works again!!

A week of replacing the head gasket whilst working nights at the same time- and finally finishing the truck at 11pm the night before was all made worthwhile with what was a top day out! The sun shone all day as well!

Big thanks to James- and to all those who attended and made the day what it was.

Recommended for off roaders new and experienced alike!
ThreePointFive
My third proper offroading day (I think that puts me in the inexperienced group) and it was really good fun, thanks to James and everyone else. Didn't break anything either!
I would post pictures but my camera died just as I started using my new mount, so I don't have any.

That camera mount works really well...................

At the beginning the grass needs cutting for silage ........... for christs sake don't let James do it .........him and mowers just do not go well together rofl.gif

Yeah I can't fault the mount, it's the camera.. now I have to go and look for another one, preferably with an external microphone because that clicking is mostly internal to the camera... I had lots of fancy shots planned too. You can stick it anywhere theres a flat planel (That'll be most of a land rover).

What's this mowing thing then? laugh.gif

I did see that in the pics you sent me. I didn't want to say. I can't believe you got it dirty. Resale value has gone through the floor. I'll give you a pound for it. You competing with Tony with it. That should be good to see you behind the wheel. Can you remember how to drive in a comp tongue.gif tongue.gif
ciderman
I can say that I actualy saw James truck yesterday and yes it was muddy and the rear winch rope had signs of use . I had to check the ignition barrel as i thought it had been stolen . laugh.gif
Milemarker Type S
I can confirm that James definitely used his rear winch... as I was on the end of it at one point... doh blush.gif ... must try harder with the right foot!

Oh and he also used it to pull himself out of a small bog that he fell in to as well- the route changed slightly at that point!
