Unlike some A list celebrities, my locker will not come out.
I took the air pipe off but that made no difference so I have taken the diff out, washed it off and had a look, half shafts and spline seem ok, I have given it a gentle tap with the hammer while turning the crown wheel but still stuck in.
Where do I go now, can you take the internals apart?.

Almost surely the plastic cage inside has broke. Dave Ashcroft makes steel replacement (I have them in both of mine) Either get him to send you one or send the diff to him to have it fitted.

If it's the older type, the plastic cage (arb call it a piston) inside may have broken up - this cage transfers the force from the spring across to the other side unlock the dog clutch. The cage can break due to shock loading if the locker has been engaged while one wheel is spinning and the other is stationary (not recommended).
They're not too difficult to pull to bits, reassembly can be a wee bit fiddly but not too bad.
Replacement plastic cages are available from ARB alternatively, Ashcroft do some nice steel ones.

Yep, Ashcroft, I have them fitted!
Bob, If they are about the same age you May as well send both diff's and get them done at the same time. Peg them aswell while your at it

Thats a good idea.
They are not that old, probably 18 months. We only did maybe four or five competitions in this vehicle and use it more for green lanes than its true purpose so its not had a hard life on the grand scale of things.

Spoke to Ashcrofts today and they are out of stock and apparantly have no plans to continue with them so it looks like back to plastic (which they do not do).

I suspect they are not making any more as the RD128 which replaces the RD56 does not use the plastic cage.

I guess your right there Steve but there must be literally thousands of the old ARB lockers knocking around.
Its a pity, first it was R2D2 and Princess Leah and now this, where will it end
