Does any one know where I can find someone who can do durable hot dip galvanising around Gosport?

What sort of cost do I expect for shot-blasting and galvanising something the size of a ground anchor?

There are probably some smaller more local places but previous research found Wessex galvanising (now called WEDGE) who I think are at Winchester to be the first option round here.

Hello,
Shot blast should be about a tenner or less Galvanize is about 80 pence a kilo but check that there is no minimum weight on that,
Ask at a local fab shop and ask them to put it in with there stuff or tell you who they use,
Carl.

Just to add, I have used K&N Finishers at Portchester for blasting, speak nicely they may be able to fit you in as a cash-in-hand job.

We use Wessex (Wedge), they are very good, you will find that they have a minimum order charge and a collection/delivery charge but ask them anyway.

Your best bet is, as mentioned, to find someone who sends other stuff in and tack onto their order.

You may not need to shot blast, depends how rusty it is. You will need to vent any enclosed voids.

Have you considered getting it plated? Electro plating is a much nicer, if slightly less durable, finish and platers are usually more open to a cash injection.

I had my project110 chassis dipped at wessex (wedge), did a very good job. friendly and helpful too.

the chassis was £216 to get done, and another £70 for the B pillars (i feel i got ripped off with those, but i suspect it was to do with minimum weights and such)

They're handy too... as they've got a fleet of forklifts to load/unload, and cash sales are not a problem.

I took about 3mm of rust scale off the lower surfaces. Still about 5.5mm of good steel left. Need to measure it with the Ultrasonics - but I haven't had it with me.

The minimum charge may cause it to be close to replacement.

I like the idea of putting in in to a fab shop to add to their load. Any ideas on a fab shop?

There was talk of a galvanising shop somewhere near the ASDA?

Anyone got experience of them or know who/where they are?

Martin,

I also used Wedge at Eastliegh when I did the bulkhead as while I found a good place for blasting/coating in Gosport they didn't do galv.

Wedge are good to deal with so one option to consider is to see if anyone else on the forum might like to help make up the minimum weight? Bit more hassle but it would help spread the minimum charge (~£60 IIRC). Note they do not do blasting so you will have to have any items cleaned elsewhere though I did find a handy place on the same estate (TombRaider owner to boot).

Ahh... thats the 110 that you see parked on the right as you come in from the petrol station?

i spied that on the several trips i made down that way! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Good idea on the bulk load from other members.... i might have some more stuff to do later on as well.

would be easy to share the cost out... just weigh your items and then divide by the total cost of the coating.
