Right, so the story is like this.

Got home last night from work, parked as per usual no problem.

Got out to the car this morning to find i had (unusually for me) left it in gear- reverse actually.

Whacked it into neutral and started up, moved forward and then went to select reverse. No reverse... blink.gif

Tried again and again, its like there isn't even a reverse gate anymore.

Any suggestions on what to look at? Its sitting outside the office at the mo having been pushed backwards into a space. Unluckily for me the car park is dead flat so no option of parking nose in and then rolling out...

Anyone got any ideas for what i should look at? I'm hoping its just some kind of selector fault. I know nothing about gearboxes...

Ok have just done some searching, and seems that the reverse light switch may stop me getting through the gate. I know what i'll be doing at lunchtime...

Any ideas if that isnt it?

Thanks!

hi, ive got exactly the same problem, i if i slam it across it goes but it cant be doing it much good, let me know if it is the reverse switch and il have a check on mine. i just assumed it was the stick getting stiff, my box has been sat in the workshop since 1989!! just thought it needed a bit of freeing off!! ha

cheers

I had something similar on my LT77 (2.25 petrol though).
Basically the knuckle(?) at the base of the gear level was covered in mud. Once it was cleaned and lubricated getting over the gate and into reverse was fine.

Just went out and checked it.

The end of the reverse switch is smashed, and i'm assuming that the rest of it is in the selector mech somewhere stopping me getting through the gate somehow. I never checked the switch was setup correctly when i changed the box, and it must have been wound too far in. dry.gif

So check your switch is only wound in far enough to do the job... wink.gif

western
take the rubber boot of, gear lever turret & bias spring off & you should be able to retrieve any unwanted remains of the reverse switch.

Had more of a look at the problem last night and although the switch was broken (and no doubt the bits are now somewhere in the box) the actual problem was that the reverse plunger was seized. Totally and utterly. Was full of water and the ball bearing was pretty shot. Luckily i had an identical plunger unit on a spare box i have...
