Hey gents, This is my first post and i am new to this forum. I have owned a 1998 LR disco since 2000, purchased from a local LR dealer (@18k miles) here on Long Island, NY. There have been absolutely no serious problems with the truck other than the usual brakes, muffler and thats about it. It currently has 109k miles on it and is completely stock (not for long, heeee)

At the end of last year, I decided to fix the oil/antifreeze leaks seemingly coming from the front cover.
I pulled off the cover, cleaned with a dry rag, replaced the seals and it sounded and ran great for about 200 miles.
I then started to hear a minor valve noise, oil light came on then the check engine light.
I shut it off immediately.......

My questions are

Are there any tricks in putting the oil pump back together (seems like the likely culprit)?
Is there a chance the a totally destroyed my engine?
Also, how the cranky do you drop the oil pan completely off the engine?

I ordered the workshop manual on ebay so it should be here soon.

Thank You in advance

You need to get the oil pump to prime. This is normally done by filling the pump with vaseline. Wait, it can't be that if it ran for 200 miles.

Best take the front off again and look at the pump itself. Rover V8s always have very low oil pressure anyway, so the chances are you haven't damaged your engine.

The oilpan (I assume the sump??) if I recall correctly can be unbolted from underneath. You will probably have to remove the exhaust downpip to slide it out though
