On a 2001 Td4 I am trying to determine if the fuel pump in the tank has failed .
I removed the connection from the pump in the engine bay so I could hear the rear one running (or not ) .
No sound from the rear so I figured pump has failed - but just wondering would the pumps be interlinked in some way so that if one becomes disconnected the other doesn't work either ( maybe extra pressure would harm it ?).
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has tried this method of finding the faulty pump .

Got a new fuel pump for the tank , fitted it , started up and ran fine .
Owner took it away - wouldn't start next morning , told him to tap pump under battery and it started but stopped after about 5 mls. and refused to go again . mad.gif
So I have now ordered the pump that goes under the battery from Famous Four.
Retail price here quoted by main dlr was around €374 + 21.5 % VAT = €454 or thereabouts. = £375 approx
How the prices can be justified beats me . sad.gif Hopefully this will solve the problem for a long time !!!!!!!
