Hi again, firstly apologies for asking so many questions, I haven't the first clue about running a 4wd or a landrover!!!!! This may be a bit hard to describe so here goes........ at low revs say 1500 to 2000 revs there is a hesitation hard to explain, there is little to no power until it kicks back in, it does it in all gears on pull off and when driving. That wasn't the best of descriptions so I was wondering if this was normal turbo lag or something else?????

I wouldn't call 1500-2000 rpm low revs, a TD4 engine torque peaks at about 1750. Having said that I used to have a manual TD4 freelander and if you cruised along gently at about 40 in top and put your foot down to overtake there was a definite turbolag. I now have a TD4 automatic and this does even stranger things and I am never quite sure whether a delay is caused by the programmed gear changes or by turbo lag or both.

Hi

My 05 Freelander Td4 does a similar thing, it feels like a flat spot at around 2000rpm on and off power, I have no idea what causes it but it had a new fuel pump and air flow meter earlier in the year and these made no difference (though they did sort out the other problems). I guess it's just turbo lag, I find it can be almost completely cured by using higher grade fuels like BP ultimate diesel etc, but usually just put Tesco diesel in cos that's nearest and cheaper, and put up with the weirdness. Not sure about your cold starting (re your other thread) but mine was really lumpy when cold when it got near it's service interval, but a good fettling from the local specialist has sorted it right out. Seems like the Td4 is a bit of a high maintainence mistress with expensive tastes... laugh.gif

Cheers
