Guys,
I have bought a disco that has had a heavy O/S front impact and it had shoved the axle back a bit.
The resulting backwards shove of the axle has pushed the prop back and it has alsp pushed the transfer box back and it has snapped off 2 of the mounting hole lugs on the back of the LT77 box as circled in the picture. (picture is a library picture and not my gearbox)

The gearbox is a genuine land rover replacement item with the land rover approved replacement item id tag on the bellhousing and is in very new looking condition so hence i think it may be worth repairing.

Can anyone confirm if the silver rearmost casting on the above picture is available as a spare part, and how big a job is it to swap that bit of casting.

Oh by the way the only gearbox i have ever peered inside was a ford type 9, and all i did was peer inside and quickly close the top and say ' well that looks complicated in there!'

Thanks
Colin

I have never done it but I am sure it will keep you out of mischief for a while, I don't think it is a 5 min job!

IMHO if the box has been hit hard enough to snap off the mounting lugs I would suggest that you may find some damage to the internals of the boxes- bearings/ shafts / gears etc as all will have taken a very heavy shock load. Might be worth enquiring with ashcroft for their opinion.
