I will be parking the "Shark" (td5 110 99 model defender) into the garage and get serious issues in order. Wobbly wheel leads me to suspect the bearings and therefore, I have "piled" loads of parts to which might be handy whiles in the Swivel Chrome area. Oil Seal on Chrome is leaking like wild honey unsure.gif . Neighbours are pointing fingers at the "Shark" as the culprit. I simply ignore their riveting stares at me blink.gif . All I want to tell them is as De Niro says in films, "Are you looking at me?" ohmy.gif

Well I would be changing the brake pads, brake disk and the calipers. Once there I want all done. Empty the one shot greese oil and get all done. Believe me, I have read the threads so many times I could take an A level exams on that and blow it to pieces. However, I dread all these. Has anyone replaced the Calipers before? I just want to get it all right! All tips would be readily absorved!!!

NB ..I saw the red Landy in Roma and it belongs to the Fire Brigade.. I almost embraced that beauty! I decided to call her "Lady in Red!!"

The TD5 has this wierd arrangement (a LR favourite nowadays) of having a selection of nuts to tighten the wheel bearings. There are about six sizes and you are supposed to keep on mucking about until you get the right one. This may be ok for the stealers™ who have access to all the various nuts, but for a private owner it is ridiculous. And anyway, the whole advantage of taper-roller bearings is that they are adjustable! So buy yourself 2 ordinary old Defender nuts per wheel and a lock washer per wheel. There is also a spacer you have to throw away. Ths spacer is just the right size for fitting caliper tin seals so it will come in handy sometime.

We do this job so often I last bought 64 nuts at once smile.gif

Scrap Iron Racing used to sell a 'kit' (pause for laughter) to change the nuts.

If you knew all this anyway - and a lot of people do - I apoligize for being repetitive and boring.

huh.gif JimAtrill .. Thanks for that. You know 2 heads are better than one.! The issue about the washer will be well taken.. Thanks for that contribution. I have extra nuts and washers because this time when I get in there, all must be finished else i must call work and tell them i am unwell!! blink.gif

Dan, just on another subject ref your 110's wheels, they are not rated for any 110's maximum gross weight BUt fine for a 90. also the 'rostyle' type wheels on your 110 have been known to crack around the stud holes & welds, LR dropped that style after the cracking problem was brought to thier notice.

All I can see now is another £400- £700 .. mad.gif One thing too is that this is a winter tyre and I use it for the winter seasons of 1 November to March. Won't that hold? replied to your PM & just wanted you to be informed that these 'rostyle' RR/90 only wheels can have faults, as Tony says if you decide to replace them Discovery Steel wheels are very strong & have a good thick centre.

I see... any link as to how these disco steel wheels look like? Maybe some " googling" would help but any ideas as to how much these would cost. Wallet is already empty sad.gif -- I spent a fortune sandblasting and spraying this in a local mech workshop around the area. Any link and ideas would be welcomed!! sad.gif

I got these wheels dead cheap with 4 BFG AT's at Sodbury sometime ago, they were silver and very rusty. My dad (who is an ebay hawk) recently picked up a 5th rim for my spare for 99p!

Bizarrely i cannot find any decent shots of the wheels at any kind of straight on angle blink.gif

While on the subject of Disco steel wheels I agree they are very strong, same sort of thickness of steel as a wolf rim.

But does anybody know why the Camel Discos used Defender 5.5F tube type rims? They don't look to be as strong as the Disco steel wheels. Or was it the rims matched the tyres they used?

Hi Jim, I think it was to do with tyre fitment. As far as I remember the camel discos had 6.50x16 michelins which would have been too narrow for a 7 inch disco rim.

Only 6.50 ? So it makes sense then. I thought the tyres were 7.50s but I shall have to look more carefully at the video.

Mine were more expensive. £10 each. Unpainted but thinking of doing them cream.

I reckon they would look rather smart in ivory to match the roof.

My thoughts exactly.

Good taste Sir!

I reckon alloys look best with a single colour on a Defender & steels are best in white same as roof.

or for a different look from the crowd you could refinish the roof in silver & tart the wheels up to match.

I bought my Wolf rims second hand but not used. The ones on the left are beige/sand body colour and the ones on the right are white. No one has ever noticed biggrin.gif

sad.gif I could be interested but most likely the cost of sending it to Norway could refurnish Windsor huh.gif !! Could you check that for me? Any possibilities?
