Was thinking it would be good to compile a list of tool sizes for specific jobs.

So here goes:-

Hub Nuts - 52mm Socket

R380 Filler Plug - T55 Torx

R380 Drain Plug - 32mm Spanner

LT77 Drain Plug - 24mm Socket

LT230 Transfer Box Drain Plug - 17mm Socket

Radius arm to chassis nuts = 30mm socket
Radius arm to axle nuts = 24mm socket / spanners



I hope I've got those right!! I'm pretty sure that's what they were on my defender. Now I'm wondering whether that's a universal size for all coiler LRs!??!

wheel station to axle front - 14mm closed end ratchet spanner fits well despite different head.

swivel to axle bolts on a late coiler, the ones with the 14mm(9/16) double hex bolts.


Another sugestion would be 14 mm double hex socket for later brake discs.

And a really good quality (cos they round off easy) 13mm double hex socket for later brake callipers.

300Tdi crank bolt 27mm (and its "fully" tight laugh.gif )

Wading plug holes bell housing and timing belt case 1/4" BSP, same for series 3 bell housing.

300Tdi rad and thermostat housing plastic plugs 1/2" BSP ( for both of the above, brass and iron plugs available from plumbers merchants and larger B&Qs)

What vehicle ? IIRC the 110's rear Salisbury nut is bigger probably 32mm, but don't qoute me, as it was ages since I had to swap the oil seal in mine.

Salisbury pinion nut is 32mm.
Salisbury crown wheel bolts 19mm a/f.
Salisbury differential case bolts 19mm a/f.
Salisbury bearing cap bolts 19mm a/f.

1991 110 Def: Nut on front of rear diff (Salisbury), behind/inside prop-shaft flange, is 32 mm.

Sump plug : 19mm spanner / socket.
Rocker cover bolts : 13mm socket (ratchet spanner for the back one on Disco!)
Auxillary drive belt tensioner : 15mm socket / spanner.
Tappet adjuster locknut : 13mm.
Heater plugs : 10mm deep socket, 7mm socket / spanner for connecting cable.
Thermostat housing : 10mm socket.
Crankshaft pulley : 27mm socket.
Wheel nuts : 27mm socket.

110 CSW with self levelling unit.

The A-frame ball joint nut is tucked away in the casting with very little clearance. After trying 3 different sockets, I found a Tengtools bi-hex 30mm socket fits. No reference number I'm afraid, but it is matt silver (not shiny chrome) and quite stocky!

Disco 300Tdi.

Rear suspension upper link bolts = 1 3/16" AF socket.
Upper link to ball joint = 19mm sockets both sides and can be vey tough to split.
Rear suspension trailing arm chassis mounts = 1 3/16" AF socket.
Rear suspension trailing arm to axle = 24mm socket.


300Tdi rear caliper bolts (12 sided) have an m12 thread and do not fit 200Tdi axles, they're too big. Need 1 size smaller but in Imperial, if that makes sense.

Axle, gearbox and transfer box breathers (Banjo bolts) are 9/16 AF or a tight 14mm. These can be replaced with much better fittings from your local hydraulics/pneumatics store. Thread size is 1/8 BSP. I'd recommend elbow swivels.

Type R winches - 3/4 Hydrolic hose nuts 27mm

Would be a good idea to add the torque setting for each. No idea what the above ones are.

From post 3 -- "2.5 NA crank pulley nut 41mm".
When this bolt incorporates the dog for the starting handle the size is 1+11/16"AF.
43 mm appears to be the nearest Metric size
Expect this socket to be 3/4" drive.

For the 38A Range Rover:

R380 5 Speed Gearbox
Drain plug 32mm + Copper Washer, 25mm ID x 32mm OD,
Fill plug 55 Torx (Tx)

Borg Warner Chain Transfer Box
Fill and Drain plug 13mm Female square

Axle differentials

Glow Plugs
Glow tube plugs - one pole, 25x6mm

Spanner width (AF) : 12 mm.

Diesel AC Compressor belt tensioner
13mm AF Spanner
10mm AF Allen key. Turn Clockwise.

Torx bit list
TX40 - Ball Joints on Drag link and Tie bar.
Also Front seat base to runners.
TX45 - Front Seat Runners to bodyshell.
TX55 - R380 5 Speed Gearbox Fill Plug.

Wheel Nuts 27mm 80 lbf-ft

Brakes
Caliper Pin Bolts, Front & Rear 12mm AF 22 lbf-ft
Front Caliper to hub bolts 19mm 12 point 122 lbf-ft
Rear Caliper to hub bolts 13mm 12 point 74 lbf-ft
Brake Disc to hub screws No4 Pozidrive. 18 lbf-ft

O Rings
Water pump
Water pump O ring 68mm x 6mmCS

Heater Core O rings.
22 mm ID by 2.5 mm thickness.
Use VITON if possible. Has better high temp resistance than the NBR-rubber (Nitrile?) used by LR.

EAS
Lines to/from the air dryer are 8mm,
to the air springs 6 mm,
and the venting line is 4 mm.
O-rings are those ID, and are 2.5 mm thick.
