With a standard D90 Pick up Roll cage. What is recommended for re-inforcing the areas that the cage will mount to, ie the Front Out riggers etc?

I know there is a thread in the "Tech Archive" but most of the images are out of date sad.gif

Much will depend on the style of the cage, have you any ideas in mind ?

There is a wealth of experience here that can help you...........some even good laugh.gif

Seriously can you give more idea as to what you are after ?

What im looking at is the Standard ARC welded external cage. Whitbread have a few up for grabs. Front Hoop and rear are already fabbed. Just a case of roof bars and rear extended mounts to weld on. So it has 6 mounting positions on the chassis. I just want to get an idea of the best way to prep the mount positions on the chassis.

This design, but no front wing section. Just the truck cab area and two rear tub tubes.

If it's an ARC specced cage, then details of how to reinforce the chassis at the mounting points can be found here.

I do mine like this,

But if i wasn't useing a new chassis as in the pics i would be tempted to make a new box section outrigger.

Would i be right in assuming the front hoops position, needs the most strengthing (Outriggers)

Some good piccies..... More please...Anyone:)

The front is the weakest link in the chain, the main hoop mounts on the middle crossmenber which is well up to the job, if i mount the rear hoop outside the chassis rails i do it like this.

Having had a look at the front outriggers this morning, they are the originals. O.K condition, but personally not good enough to start strenghtening. I reckon i would be better of, A: Buying new outriggers and strengthen before putting into place B: Just fab new outriggers myself? Cut the old one's of and use as a pattern.....

If it was me, I'd buy new and then reinforce before fitting. This is what I've done to the rear crossmember for catflap.

Just make sure you weld it on square though.... not at an angle ph34r.gif
