Are there two different types ? The new ones I have here (frc 4586) have a raised lip which foul the muck thrower.

Mo, you can buy a "flange kit" to change the older type to a new type with "new improved" mud deflector thingy, the flange kit is basically the new type flange and the new type seal so you change both together.

Not sure if the part numbers for the upgrade kit appear in the parts manual - I have a feeling they don't - but may be able to find them at work if Ralph doesn't find them in the meantime wink.gif

Thanks for that Stephen.

Thought they were interchangeable and the one with the deflector needs to be inserted so that its 4mm deep down the bore - like the other thread on the hub oil seals. IIRC there is enough space in the nose of the diff to put the seal in deeper.

Replaced the diff seal on my series 3 a few months back and think the seal for that was of a similar design, and i didn't swap flanges. Think its marked on the edge of the seal like the hub ones.

Mo - you dont seem to be having much luck lately with the motor, not all probs from BDB06 i hope......

Thanks again Simon, appreciated. smile.gif

Just doing jobs whilst the diff is out James, routine maint if you like.
Diff is back in now and hubs back on, just the front output seal and and diff input seal to do in the morning and the landy will be mobile again smile.gif
Then I'll take the other diff with the locker in it apart, and find out how much it's going to cost sad.gif
