  1. Thanks everyone, I'll go out and give it a try after a couple of stress-relieving ales.
  2. Gone fishing

  3. Hi all, Short and sweet today, how on earth do I adjust the handbrake on my 96 disco?
  4. You're right Pete. But amusingly I just went out and disconnected that wire from the battery and left the other end connected to the solenoid and isolated it, shut the bonnet and was about to lock the car up when I thought "what the hell" and turned the ignition and it started Maybe new wiring from the source to the solenoid? Or is it that evil spider spinning it's web once again?
  5. Thanks for the quick replies, I just hooked a wire from the battery to the solenoid and the car is purring away happily. Well, rattling away happily anyway. I'll hopefully pick up a new solenoid tomorrow (christmas, what a great time to have problems) and all will be good. Personally I think the car is jealous. I just bought myself a boat and was supposed to be taking it out on the water this afternoon for its first run. If any vehicle has a personality and a vindictive one at that its a Landrover. Maybe I should sacrifice a goat or something to the Landrover Gods to appease them. Cheers and thanks again. Top bunch of blokes (and girls for any tomb raiders). Have a Safe and Merry Christmas.
  6. Hi all, went to start the old 300Tdi this morning and she wound over but would not start. Took an injector line off and tried again and no fuel came out of the line. Took the fuel filter off and cranked her over and diesel pumped out so its not the hi-lift pump. New fuel filter....still nothing. Cleaned up the connection for the fuel cut-off switch on the diesel pump and hooked it back up....still nothing. End result? Diesel pump not operating. I haven't had a spider problem in over two years but I wouldn't discount it. What's the best way to check if your diesel pump is working or not? And will the pump just die mechanically?Personally I think its evil evil landrover electrics. Any thoughts?
  7. Well I want to change my auto for a manual and seeing as no-one wants to talk to us how about I meet you in say.....India and we'll do a swap.
  8. Hi all, haven't been here for a while but the Disco's been running that well lately I haven't had to ask any questions, till now that is. My auto box has given me nothing but trouble since I bought the car, overheating on the beach and up steep mountains or when towing anything. The box was rebuilt when I broke the sprague assembly but still overheated so I plumbed in a much larger transmission cooler and even wired up the thermo fans so I could turn them on manually for some extra cooling but all to no avail. Therefore I'm thinking of dropping in a manual box. Is this straight forward or a nightmare and are there any little tricks I should be aware of? Cheers.
  9. I've had the Disco for a few very expensive years now and I've been thinking about a 2003 or '4 Rangie but then I thought I might go something a bit more practical like a Patrol(Datsun) Trayback or a cruiser trayback with a canopy so I could put my bed in the back instead of setting up my big old tent but then I saw an old series one shortwheel base in a movie & it had no roof and a split windscreen and the ugliest frontend you've ever seen and I think I'm in love. In think I've got a problem.
  10. Live a little, go a late 60's Pontiac Lemans Coupe and a '57/'58 Cadilac for the weekends. If you really want to go offroad there's always the Dodge Ram with the V10 out of the Viper.
  11. Just to be silly, a "Merlin Mountain". 454 Chev bored and stroked out to 11 litres, oh baby!
  12. Might be the little man that lives under there and winds up the elastic band telling you to stop eating baked beans
  13. Yep, just inside the front sprocket (I'll put a photo up soonish). I was thinking maybe something could be off-kilter with the harmonics but I only had a new timing belt kit put in 2 years ago so who knows.
  14. Sounds good, I'll have to give it a try.
