  1. has not set their status

  2. Yes indeed, I ended up waiting 7 months for my mohair to arrive....but hey it was worth it so all is forgiven.
  3. 300 TDI....disconnect the exhaust, it will still be quiet - well actually sounds very nice when the turbo kicks in. Take it for a drive and see if you can eliminate the exhaust from the equation. ........Probably the easiest place to start. Maybe worn engine mounts too...causing the exhaust to come into contact with something. Look along the exhaust length to see if there are any rubbing type marks. Failing that, though not too safe (to be pc) put the vehicle on stands (not jacks) with wheels off and see if you can replicate the noise but don't get underneath. This way you may be able to better identify where its coming from.
  4. Ali / Rick. We will be heading for QLD/NSW border area so what you say Ali will probably apply to us. At this time I'm not too worried about the differences between states but keeping this in mind if we decide on a different area so thanks for the advise. Ali. Got my quote from Robinsons thanks, 1.4 K for the 20ft and 2K for the 40ft containers from Southampton to any Port in Oz so you were spot on. The prices exclude any import duty, handling / cleaning etc. Just for the hire af the container. For exporting, what paperwork did you have to submit - understand about the V5 document to DVLA so they know what is happening to it, but what else do I have to do to make Australia aware I am importing a vehicle, did you leave all the paperwork for an agent to do or is it straight forward to do myself. Thanks in advance.
  5. I'm awaiting the container quotes - week-end now. Plan tomorrow (sunday) to measure overall landy plus sankey length and confirm whether 20 ft will suffice or if I have to go 40 ft / share. Reckon I'll ditch the truck cab as it will not be required in the security of the container.
  6. Well I am surprised how little the container cost....brilliant news.Of course rates do vary so I am not taking your advise as gospel. Now contacted various shipping agents for quotes however, like yourself, I don't necessarily take the cheap route and at that kind of rate I'm more than happy to use your recommended carrier. Hmmmmm40 ft that is a big container, pity all the furniture has been sold Just give us a shout if you want to help me fill it with landrover bits.....sorry I missed Sodbury now.
  7. Reads90... Thanks for your kind advise. Nice motor you have there. I followed your antics when you first arrived in Oz and watched the videos, gave me/us a lot of encouragement so, then seeing your house just tipped the balance....thanks for that. Mine is also a mohair soft-top, how are you finding the heat under that? also got a bikini top and a truck cab. Couple more questions if you don't mind? Did you container it over there or what? costs? timing? if RORO then security wise were there any issues? who did you use? I'm planning on bringing a sankey trailer so may just put the whole lot into a container, but that depends on cost v insurance risk.....lots of expensive tools need to come too. Just shout if you want some bits from here I don't mind collecting / liasion with Jules etc.....but no bl@@dy v8s.(looks over shoulder for Nige ) Regards Charles.
  8. Thanks Steve. Nice one and good luck in your move. Food for thought. Initially, We are going over on temporary visa's, look for work then re-apply. (been to the various seminars in London, had interviews with perspective employers, been asked when we can start work....only to be told the 7 - 9 month lead time to sell the house, do the paperwork was not too attractive for the employers. So we have been advised to arrive, make ourselves avaliable then change the visa's. House is sold so it's time to make tracks) Was led to believe you had to be a citizen in order to import vehicles, however, what you say does sound feasible as not everyone driving to Oz overland is a citizen and they have to bring their vehicle into Oz, so there must be a way of getting it there even temporarily....hmmm more reaserch required me thinks. Regards Charles.
  9. G'day gents. We are moving to Oz (anticipate Queensland area) from the UK in the next few months - around June time - and just need a little info if possible. On arrival we plan to purchase a suitable Disco or Rangrover to hopefully tow a largish 24ft caravan for temporary accomodation before finding a house to rent/buy. Although we (missus & I ) will have international driviers licences I don't want to arrive there and find we cannot buy the vehicle / caravan because of some unforseen technicality. So....are there any pitfalls I should overcome before arriving ie: We both have the standard vehicle driving licenses so is there a limit to what you can drive or tow Landrover + caravan wise or do the laws roughly follow what we have in the UK. (ie ok up to 7.5 ton.) Also registering a vehicle + insurance, do we need to have a physical home address - Like a friends house in order to get it street legal. What does this 'REGO' mean? Looked at oz ebay for likely vehicles, some are ok most others seem utter carp, are there any other places to browse on the internet. Wish I could bring my 90 hybrid along but as I'm not a resident I can't import it - pity as I have had it for 10 years. Anyway....here's looking forward to your response.....keep those beers cold.
  10. My tuppence........for what its worth. Usually if the smoke is black then it should be unburnt fuel / blocked air filter and if the rings are worn the smoke will be blueish and you will see an increase of oil consumption, worn rings also increase the crankcase pressure so when the oil filler cap is removed whilst running there will be a noticeable air / oily discharge.
  11. I agree with Jas. A cracking trailer, for very little money. Towed mine throughout the UK and in France at all speeds (err not PC but well over the speed limit sorry) and with varying loads with no hint of stability issues and as the trailer is braked it actually improves (well on mine it does) the overall braking. Tyres / rims fitted are from a defender. Just make sure the trailer is slightly nose heavy.
  12. Gents thanks for all your comments / support.. I have already decided I am not going to dispute the Garage or approach VOSA. Probably find it will cause more aggro with the garage next year anyway.....and like I said, as it is more of a safety concern not having them fitted these days then what the hell may as well get the job done. Glen, Thanks for your offer and the e-bay link...very useful. If you have a basic diagram to hand then I would be much obliged if you could pm me. Comment on the UK MOT structure. I have been living here in the UK since 1994 from South Africa / Zimbabwe and having driven on those roads / seen those piles of junk / death traps driving on the roads there, you soon appreciate how carp the system is if you only have a MOT type test once and that is when you buy or sell the vehicle. Give me the UK system anytime - warts and all. Regards Charles.
  13. Thanks Fridge....thats what I said though and I said it was a 1973 reg......and they pulled out a ancient dusty dog-eared book from an archive somewhere and showed me a paragraph where it stated - all vehicles produced after 1936 (I think the year is correct) has to have hazards fitted and any vehicles built after this date without hazards has to have them fitted retrospectively. Now I am not unhappy about this being enforced (this will improve my safety on the highway if I break down) So I am more than happy to oblige them, just need the info is all. Regards
  14. Hi Forumers My Series 3 has just failed its MOT on the fact it does not seem to have a hazard warning switch or circuit fitted. I had to laugh because for 10 years I have been taking it to the same MOT station and to my knowledge it has never been fitted with one over this period....scraping the barrel as there was nothing else wrong with it.....or a more likely reason (not having a go at you Les)...the inspectors used to take pity on me as it has failed on almost everything else over the years. Anyway I presume that a previous owner probably removed it or something. So.....my dilema is.....what components do I need to create the circuit and also an idiots guide type of wiring diagram to follow as I have a brain the size of a walnut. I don't care about trying to locate the original circuit etc as this may prove to be difficult looking at the bodged wiring behind the instrument panel, just a basic diagram showing what I need to join together will be brilliant. Thanks in anticipation. Regards Charles.
  15. I would say that the weight would not be too far off a standard LR unit but I amay be wrong.....so. Try Phoning Perkins on 01733583000 and ask for their technical support department or customer support may also help. Alternatively look on Perkins website (www.Perkins.com) and find a local Perkins agent who may help.
