  1. could a linner be moving slapping the head? dave
  2. les, put back no skim, and the bubbling, tried the magic in a bottle a £30 still no good, took head off n a mate had it skimmed, but he left it on doorstep have not seen him yet gone on holls, but two small groves avove intake side of piston 2/3 . I put back together on tick over fine, rev and there is a noise lick the linner is slapping the head? down to 20nm then 180 then 180 could I go anymore dave
  3. ok update. I took head back off and a mate of mine had it skimmed. when it came back still 2 slight groves, like pistion linner groves in head above pistons 2 3. but put back together. runs but when revs build up noise like linners are slapping the head? dave
  4. ok lets start a new one if i'm getting this freelander a 1 ace with help from les my new mate. onto vc joint took mine off cos it started juddering on tight corners then counter balance outer ring fell apart. has the vc got a life exp? or new counter bal and bearings work? dave
  5. yep water does go down if switched off before overflow, i'll keep trying then before I take it back off. I m in mid wales
  6. 8m bolt water comes out, then screw on heater hose. just thinking if it was the gasket or head still would it not be bubbling? why water level rising out of tank? dave the head must have gone, coolant keeps over flowing???????????? les where you live?
  7. ok update. back together, running sweet, but but but, after a while water level is rising to top of exp tank? she is not getting hot. temp gauge smack in middle. coolant fans never come on. been trying to bleed coolant system. no water in oil? any thoughts dave
  8. Hi Les do you think i'll have to take sump off, does say oil ladder should be held in with 2 of its own bolts, so should not have moved? i think it should be ok? your new friend dave
  9. yep 1.8 k petrol, ok it is a git to get the crank timing right after. i'm doing the cams so valves will be fine, only think is the oil ladder, will have to take sump off to make sure everything bolts back up. dave

Hello all, ok i when to change the head gasket, but never read the book first, so i just took the head off, then with head off turnned the crank to line the bottom timing mark, eveyone is no saying don't trun crank with head bolts out? whats the problem what damage have i done? 2 of the liners seem to have dropped a bit, but was hoping they will pull back up help please Dave
