  1. Hello All, I have a 2004 Freelander SE KV6 Automatic that is not feeling well. Both service lights are on. When driving, it will drive normally (quite well actually) for anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes, then a flashing F - 4 code on the LCD with the HDC warning lights lit up. The transmission goes into single speed limp mode. I've done a fair bit of googling regarding the problems which has lead me to suspect that it is an electrical / communications problem or a sensor problem that is bringing down the network. Suspects range from the brake switch to the ECU cooling fan to a dodgy hub speed sensor. I've hooked up a generic ODD II reader and retrieved the following list of codes: MIL DTC P1646 CAN link to auto gearbox ECU. Implausible signal/condition Technical Service Bulletins: There are currently no TSBs for P1646. Stored Codes P0222 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor B Circuit Low Input P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor A P0606 ECM / PCM Processor P1605 Internal EEPROM fault General fault P1627 engine overspeed.Implausible signal/condition P1646 CAN link to auto gearbox ECU.Implausible signal/condition Technical Service Bulletins: There are currently no TSBs for P1646. P1775 Gearbox Fault P1844 Engine RPM error flag set. Any thoughts on a good place to start. I'm a fairly competent mechanic and electrician with a good set of tools. I've started by installing a fresh battery and checked for obvious wire damage... Cheers, Paul in Victoria.
