  1. I'm trying to figure out the operations of the glow plug timer unit for my project car. The original engine came out of a disco 1 300tdi that is now long gone. I'm pretty sure that when I energise the relay it clicks on for about 5 seconds then clicks off. Also pretty sure that glow plugs do fire up for that period. So that's the normal relay contacts dealt with and the timer function. Now I'm left with a white/green cable and a black/yellow cable. According to the diagram earlier in this thread the White/green is spliced into the same circuit as the starter solenoid so is presumably an input to the glow plug relay. The B/Y wire goes to the warning light on the dash. In my case a 5w side light bulb. I'd have thought energising the W/G wire (cranking) would then shut off the B/Y output or it would also shut off after the timer completed. My does not do this. If I connect the B/Y wire through the bulb to earth then the bulb is perminantly on when the relay is energised. If I connect it back to the W/G ( as per diagram above) it never comes on Anyone any insight into what I have wrong?
  2. Very nice. What size hose/ports are you using? Did you make or buy the manifold? Steve
  3. Its the switches that worry me. they look very fragile with age
  4. I have a c304 and wondered how you'd moved away from vacuum diff locks Are you willing to PM me details on your solution My set up is detailed here www.pearman.cc/blog Steve
  5. Looks great I'd quite like to swap out the difflock vacuum controls, after 40 years they look a bit fragile. How have you integrated switches on your dash to the diff locks? Steve
  6. A recheck shows I#ve tapped into the wrong circit - try again
  7. Sounds odd, doesn't it. But the Volt metre shows the circuit to the lock solinoid energised when I select reverse. Makes we wonder if I have the right circuit. But it also energises as soon as the car hit's 3rd gear and it's the right colour and place as per the RAVE CD
  8. Also how come the torque converter lock engages when reverse is selected but the car does not stall
  9. I was considering a manual overide by energising the lock up solinoid. The worst case I can see is a stall of the engine??? Anyone know better? Steve
  10. I have a 2001 TD5 Auto Disco and I am trying to understand the function of the Torque Converter lock up. I am trying to do this as a thought engaging the lock up would aid in engine breaking, but now I’m not so sure. I have a volt meter on the orange and white cable (Pin 33) coming out from the Auto ECU which goes to the Lock up solenoid. All it seams to do is energise at 3rd gear and de energise at near standstill. The RAVE cd suggests that it plays a part in Low Range, but I can’t get it to do anything other than engage at 3rd gear. I’m a bit of novice at driving autos so have been practicing left foot braking on descents but if the lock up is not engaged then this seams a waste of time Have I misunderstood the purpose of the lock up?
