  1. Hi guys i am in the process of having a concrete sectional garage built and will soon want to buy a car transporter trailer to tow with my disco 2 td5 auto and the heavyest thing i will be carrying on the trailer will be a disco 1 ( passed my test in 1980 ) i know the disco 2 is well capeble of towing 3.5kgs but want to know will a 2.7kg or a 3.0kg trailer carry a disco 1 as there seems to be more of them about and in some cases cheeper. graham _______________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  2. Hi guys thinking of going to the stoneliegh show and wondered does anyone know if there will be a tyre fitting firms there like they have at billing and alike ( want some grabber at2s ) do i need to pre order my tyres before i go once i find out who they are, or do i just turn up buy and have them fitted, or are they cheeper to buy from ells where, need to know as we are going to cornwall the week after. thanks graham __________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  3. Hi guys just been doing some research on the d 2 td5 auto box ( being sluggesh ) and found out that the d 2 auto box is the same auto box used in the jaguar xjs 3.6 auto, the td5 engine is 135 bhp and the xjs 3.6 engine is 225 bhp so obviusly the td5 engine is well under powered for the auto box, a std remap will take the td5 engine to 170 bhp or there abouts, so to get the best performance from the auto box and engine would a stage 2 remap be a better option rather than a stage 1 remap, what bhp would the stage 2 remap take the td5 engine to, will the td5 take the stress or will the engine need to be moded and does anyone know how much a stage 2 remap will cost. graham __________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  4. there maybe a chance that there heads may touch the rear window aswell, also the d 2 has folding head rests and don't forget the load space in a d 2 is bigger than in a d 1. graham ____________________ 05 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  5. a couple of years ago i decided to do a 200tdi conversion on my s11a swb, anyway i bought a disco 200tdi engine from ebay and noticed the turbo had the start of what your pic shows, the fins had started to wear away, as i only had the engine i suspected the air intake hose that would have been connected to the turbo may have fraid inside the hose and exposed the wire inside the rubber of the hose and under load sucked and slightly unraveled towards the fins, but i could be wrong anyway i fitted a new turbo just incase and the engine ran perfikly and still is now. graham ____________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  6. Hi denviks i take it you have a prob with holding the gun on the nipple and pumping the grease in, i had the same prob last weekend with my mates 300tdi, had to get the ramps out and drive the disco onto them, i have two pairs but you should be able to do it with 1 pair or a jack and axle stands. graham _______________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  7. Hi discokev and welcome to the forum, you could remove the two hoses and find an aggricultural or plant engineers place and get them to make sum up as per sample for you, or find an hydraulic hose specialist like pertek as they come to you, hope this helps. graham _______________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  8. the filters i ordered from paddocks have just arrived and they are all LR just what i ordered so now i can get it done at the weekend ready for our jollies . graham _______________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  9. Ah thats it thanks so obviusly putting 7 lts in would be to much oil so 6.7 it is then. cheers graham __________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  10. when i did my 200tdi conversion into my then s11a swb the 200 held 6.9 lts but i am sure i read it somewhere that the 300 holds less engine oil but can't remember how much. graham _______________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  11. Hi guys going away in a few weeks in my mates disco 1 and want to give it a service before we go, just ordered a genuine filter kit from paddocks and just need to know how much oil the engine holds ( disco 1 300tdi 1997 ) thanks. graham _________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  12. i always make sure if i am working on any car with central locking that i have the drivers window down, made that mistake many years ago when i lived in an avenue i had just finished doing an engine swap on a rover 2.6 sd1 and started the engine up then went in the house to make a brew came back to the car and the central locking had gone into the locked position and i had no spare key, lookerlly a neighber with an identical car came over and tried his key which opened the doors, so ever since then i always make sure the drivers window is open. graham _________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  13. Hi o t b thats a really nice looking truck you have there, that must be one of if not the nicest landy camper convesion i have ever seen, and i think the roof rack takes the ambalance look away from it really well, nice one. graham _______________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  14. Hi guys can anyone tell me if the header tank cap on an 03 disco 2 td5 needs to be as tight as you can get it or just hand tight, i only ask as my original one is leaking at the seals so i bought one a couple of weeks ago off ebay hopeing it would be a genuine one but it came in a blue box, anyway so with the new one fitted a couple of weeks ago i came to check the coolant level and when i undid the cap the center of the cap stayed inside the tank and the rest of the cap was in my hand so had to refit the original cap to get me to a L R dealer in stockport but when i got there they didn't have any in stock so drove to land ranger in stockport but they only had britpart ones in so being desperat i bought one and yesterday i rechecked the level and again the center of the cap stayed in the neck of the tank and just want to know is it me over tightening the caps or is it because of the make. graham _________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
  15. to be honest over the past 15 years i have had landys i have never really had a prob with britpart stuff just stay away from speedo cables, seals / gaskets, and any type of bearing that is britpart but other than that i have never had a prob, i have had more trouble with better made parts than britpart stuff in some cases, heres one, full set of britpart wheel cylinders inc 11" front brakes lasted 5 years, a full set of gerling wheel cylinders inc 11" front brakes lasted 6 months, so re placed them with britpart again. graham ________________ 03 d2 td5 auto e.s.
