  1. Today I went to a scrap yard that had two disco's in it. I checked both of them, neither had any weights on the Vin tag. This is starting to look a bit like a willd goose chase from VOSA. has any one got a Vin tag that is stamped up with the correct weights in the boxes, if so could you take a picture of it but tape over the Vin number so we can't see that just in case so it can't be copied. That way I can get a separate one made up with , Maximum permitted laden weight for vehicle Maximum vehicle and trailer weight Maximum road weight - front axle Maximum road weight -rear axle. Many thanks. Neil P-M
  2. thanks for putting that up but i had allready read that and it still leaves things open. think this is going to be a large can of worms.
  3. Hello, This may come as a bit of a shock to some but I've just found out that its illegal to tow with a Jap Discovery The reason , it does not have any weights stamped on the Vin plate all it has is the chassis number. After doing a bit of digging about on the internet, this does appear to be correct. Now the fun starts. I've contacted the heritage centre, they say contact land rover. I've contacted land rover, they said contact Japan, (ok ? ) Now I've just sent a e-mail off to VOSA to see what they have to say. I do have a certificate of conformity from land rover saying it conforms to all UK requirements. All that's needed is the weights stamped on the Vin plate and away we go . Has anyone else come across this problem , if so what did you do to sort it out please. Any info would be of great help. Neil P-M
  4. i also have the same problems except the tempreture, mine seems to stay about the same. its comon for the temp to rise a bit on a hill though .
  5. ok , the usual, 300 tdi EDC (jap import) discovery 1996 75K on the clock. a slight engine mis at (aprox) 1500 to 1750 rpm bit clears after that. on the road if i use kick down or go up hills the engine pulls strong till about 2750 RPM then it seems to feel like its got fuel starvation and misses. if you just tickle the throttle it will just reach about 75MPH ,but put your foot down and it will only do 60 MPH. all the fuel system has been checked, new fuel filter. checked air filter (K&N) , cleaned it but did not re oil as still in good condition. inter cooler has been cleaned and new silicone pipes have been fitted (all before problem started and ran fine) cleaned sedimenter, no water, no carp inside, all new O rings (fitted correctly) tank pickup pipe removed/ cleaned and blown through with an air line no carp inside. all fuel lines blown through with an air line even the return pipe no carp inside any of them. when blowing through i placed a clean piece of white cloth at the ends to catch any carp, each time it was clean.. new lift pump fitted (Delphi), removed , vacuum checked against the old pump (both the same) then re fitted. none of the parts used have been Mickey mouse, all have been quality items. it is running on good old pump diesel, as im not an eco warrior NO veg oil has passed it filler neck just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem could be and could shine some light on it. i am based in the Bristol area, if anyone close has a Hawkeye that is set up for a 300 tdi EDC discovery and would like to earn some beer tokens for a diagnostic reading , please PM me. thanks. Neil
  6. the vehicle is only used a few times a year so the pump diafram seems to rot .
  7. Hello. has anyone come across a electric pump to replace the mechanical lift pump on a 300 TDI engine . I have been looking at a pierburg pump fitted to the later range rovers, wondered if that would do the job or does it pump at to high a pressure. have any of you done this conversion , if so what did you use. any ideas would be useful. thanks. Neil.
  8. as per usual the ABS is playing up again, i expect its the air gaps. having seen the price of the hawkeye system, they can stick that somewhere where the sun dont shine !. i wondered if anyone has found any other OBD readers that can do basic jobs like the ABS. looking on e-blag there appears to be quite a few that say they will do landrover ABS. can anyone shine any more light on this please.
  9. how much does that unit cost as i was wondering wether to buy one
  10. thanks for the info, do you know if you can get the software to load onto a laptop.
  11. can anyone help me please. first i need to know what type of system is used on the 300TDI with EDC . my OBD reader will not read anything on that system. can i either download or buy the software to load onto my laptop so i can read the system. as of yet i can only find software for TD5s onwards. any info would be greatly received. thanks neil.
  12. i am doing this on behalf of a friend. the engine fault light came on and the disco went into limp home mode. a friend has tried to read the problem from the OBD. what he thinks it is, is number 4 injector appears not to be working properly. can anyone tell me what the resistance should be across the two wires on number 4 injector as i cant seem to find out. OR does anyone know where i can find out. thanks neil.
  13. i have a 300 EDC TDI auto disco can i get a uprated direct replacement intercooler to fit in the same place as the oridgnal is this worth doing or have i got to get it chipped as well
