  1. Everyone's problem is unique ...my wet drivers carpet was due to water running down Windscreen / off bonnet into scuttle panel area, down through drain hole in inner wing and through a corrosion made hole into the cabin just above some relays and fuses...bizarre I know...
  2. Hi, Just got boot floor out, also gonna chop out xmember of body and replace. There ain't a lot to prop body up is there? ... Hopefully someone can answer a few questions ... 1) can I get rid of sedimenter and just bypass the thing...is it needed? 2)how does the fuel tank come out? I've removed the top strap but it wont come from top as far as I can see... 3)The top of tank fuel unions are well past it...are these readily available? 4)any other areas to suggest whilst its in this state to overhaul or renew .. Any advice appreciated.. thanks Rich PS taking pics so will upload my version of bootfloor, xmember replace soon. Its going to primarily be non OEM panels.....
  3. lol says it all really on that link...."genuine 97quid" , "britpart £19"
  4. Hi All, MOT day today, - failed on one, drop link (no probs), headlight alignment offside (actually its because the damper is going soft and drivers side is sagging - i know i can tell)...) easy to adjust to make Mr MOT happy, back box corroded (no prob 30 quid)....oh and "suspension component corroded"....what the hell - its a body mounting...still a fail but not really suspension.. Its the rear crossmember hes on about. anyway, ive done everything bar the boot floor and xmember - welding that is..I need to ask a specific question hence why trawling back hasnt yet yeilded any answers on this.. I want to use heavier box section and fab my own heavier mountings... I know the chassis is close at the back to the stock hieght body - 1) will it clear sufficiently to use box and not reshape to the contour of the chassis like the original xmember? 2) if not to 1), can i lift it using spacers on body to chassis to achieve a decent height to use box?. any other info would be appreciated... like places to get box and the size etc... do the wings rear quarters have to come off or can they be prised away enough for a decent job? If i had done this job last year when i wanted to....id have been faced with under £100 including test for another 12months MOT. thanks Rich
  5. Hi, my R380 has whined for 3 years that ive had it. It is no worse, it crunches if i race it into 2nd so i dont..It jumps out of 2nd once a month. It has got no worse - i am sure. As a general question, do the gearboxes whine after a bit anyway, or should a decent one be pretty silent. Im reluctant to swap it, but, the rear crankshaft oil seal is leaking, - again, not bad and no worse than when i brought it - losing half pint every 3months.. Do they all whine is my question?. If not, then i have an excuse to change it and do the oil seal at the same time....and clutch for good measure. Rich
  6. Thanks all...the support here is second to non.
  7. Sigh...this is turning into another nightmare job..... I've got a prob on my 300tdi 3dr...in a nutshell... Boot stopped unlocking although mechanism was trying to work.... Swapped actuator for a spare I had, still same... Both actuators return to compressed position when unlocked or locked....when unlocked, the actuator will strongly push then loses all resistance... Drivers door started playing up last few days....it won't open....if I take that actuator off, it still won't open unless I hold the locking knob up and open catch....inside and outside catches work if I pull and hold the knob up past its open position... Any ideas? Are the two probs linked ? Thanks Rich
  8. Hi, please can you explain reasons why if only in these gears, it is not the gearbox?...I was under the impression that 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear noise was conclusive of layshaft wear / bearings....mine is noisy in these gears and assumed it was r380 to blame...I thought these gears all ran via this component.. Rich
  9. Sounds silly...but bobtail?
  10. Hi all, Hoping for a quick reply...I've got the sunroof off the tdi300 (front one) and have a new tigerseal ready for action....the gasket on the top plastic to body section looks ok... Should I remove it and replace with tigerseal or just put some on top of the cleaned up rubber gasket? Any advice appreciated.. Thanks Rich
  11. Make sure you leave some money for emergency...you will need it...spend a grand on one and spend some on servicing...cam belt etc, maybe a few new bits....going to your max budget on the vehicle alone may be risky...that was my personal findings...
  12. Bog monster. You are edging towards les hensons "font of all knowledge podium spot" for me....
  13. Someone might be aving a laugh at my expense but....is there a "secret" hook or a code named area where you could hang a takeaway bag? Lol....slap me in the face if it sounds crazy ... When I told a landrover technician I had a tdi 300 .... he asked if id found the secret curry hook? And wudnt say anymore .. Put me out my misery please...
  14. No I don't believe edc controls have em....don't quote me...I think I read the same thing....luckily mine was a basic model....
