  1. Sounds like a good option, the x member would not be too difficult to move back. Also depends if you change from an auto back to a manual you might not need to move it at all. Cheers Nick
  2. Consider getting a tgb 20 chassis, that way you can get the 606 to sit behind the front diff like the B30 does. I extended my tgb13/14 chassis by 400mm for that reason, no need to cut the sump for clearance + you end up with a reasonable length rear tailshaft
  3. Great project retropower! Wondering how you will bolt the ML box to the om648 sump, I'm doing a similar motor/ trans conversion into a Volvo 6x6. The om648 sump has a different bolt pattern to the Om 606 where it bolts to the trans
  4. On my V8 I used a Bosch 044 pump that was common on Holdens here. I picked up one from the wreckers (breakers?) and mounted it on the chassis rail. I put a filter before the pump as I had a steel long range tank. All up I think it cost me $60 to set up and worked perfectly for 15 years. The wiring that went to the original RRC pump was just hooked up to the Bosch one. I'm not sure how the td5 pump is wired but I'm guessing it would be similar. Nick
  5. Nice project. Have you considered using an external fuel pump like a Bosch and just set up the tank with a pickup. I did this on my RRC and it worked well. Advantage is that if you have a fuel pump problem in the future you just change the pump without having to drop the tank cheers Nick
  6. Thanks for letting us know, always look forward to your updates cheers Nick
  7. Time for an update on your progress Paul. The Volvo builders in Oz need some inspiration! cheers Nick
  8. Was wondering if anyone can help in contacting Jez, I've sent him a few emails about some parts I need for my Volvo portal axles but no reply. I've bought some CW&P for the portals from him before and contacting him was easy. Anybody know if he has a new/different email? Thanks Nick
  9. Fantastic work, your son is a luck boy.  Don't forget to make a small puddle of oil to go underneath it (in the interests of authenticity of course)

    Cheers

    Nick

  10. The adaptor is 160mm face to face so with ML box total is 700mm. I havn't got the shaft yet as I've asked them increase the diameter of the shaft and respline my input gear from the 10 spline LR to a larger diameter greater spline count that they do for the tremec manual box. The Volvo 6X6 will be about 3 ton in weight with camper box on the back so I wanted a beefy shaft for the 606 torque, this could be overkill but I wanted the drive-train as reliable as possible. Will post some pics when I get the shaft
  11. Yes like all good women - not cheap!! Best to give Rakeway a call re price because that is the first one he made so price could change and being from Aust I did not pay VAT Nick
  12. Happy to start one but it will be a while as still collecting the bits. There are two of us here in Melbourne doing the same conversion cheers Nick
  13. Nice build!! Here is the Rakeway adaptor I'm using to mate a Merc 606 + ML722.6 box to an LT230. Its going into a Volvo C304 6X6 Cheers Nick
  14. G'Day from Australia HoSS how is progress on the Volvo coming? Be great to get an update when you have time Nick
  15. Looks great HoSS, want to make me one too? Did you buy that DIN shaft from SPHP in Italy? I'm finding it really hard to get an answer out of them about buying a shaft to make my adaptor between the MB auto and the Volvo TC Cheers Nick
  16. HoSS is it possible to modify the side of the engine compartment to give you a little more space for the PS pump without encroaching into the footwell too much? I know the MB engine mounts are quite flexi so a bit more space may be available that way rather than lowering the motor again.
  17. Congratulations HoSS!! Did you end up raising the motor to get more sump/axle clearance or is that a job for later? And yes please post a video of its first burnout
  18. Thanks again for keeping the updates coming Hoss. I would also like some info on the Arduino boards Nick
  19. Looks great Hoss, just need to find spot for the GPS navigation screen
  20. Hoss, out of interest did you modify the rear flange of the 648 sump on your conversion so that it matched up with the auto bell housing that was fitted to your OM606? Thanks Nick
  21. Those TRE you are after are available for LHD Volvo portals from Tatanka Parts in Sweden Cheers Nick
  22. Hi Hoss Must be time for a detailed update. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms! Plus I need inspiration for my project putting an OM606 into a C304 6x6 Cheers Nick
