  1. Would appreciate that if you could have a dig. Stu
  2. Good stuff, and yes a highly scientific experiment that I will attempt to re-produce tonight when I get home! I am hoping that mine does not have that secret landrover tube as that will be a move forward!
  3. Just finishing up a few bits on my V8 conversion. The header tank thats on my Landy is the original one from the 2.25 petrol and has 2 pipes connected. One thin one from the top of the rad and a larger one in the bottom of the tank that feeds back into the old water pump I think. Ive blanked the bigger one on the bottom off. Now, ive done the V8 conversion there is knowhere for the bottom one to feed back to. Ive connected the top one to the rad again and T pieced in the pipe from the front of the thermostat housing (See my other post in wanted for the small rad fitting needed). Now my question. If the new system gets hots and expands water into the tank, how does it ever take it back into the engine/rad when the pipe is right on the top of the expansion tank? Are there 2 kinds of tanks? Expansion and header? (2.25 running a header and V8 running expansion) Are the tanks different inside? Like the V8 expansion tank has a pipe inside reaching to the bottom of the tank to enable expanded water to return back to the system? I just dont see how it could ever get back on my tank? Do I need to get a proper expansion tank for the V8 system?
  4. Cheers, they are both pretty close to me. Will give them a try.
  5. Hi, I know not many actually get broken, but are there any decent Landrover dismantlers in the Herts/Essex area? Or just any Landrover specialists that carry used parts? Thanks,
  6. Well took it for a nice test drive today and its so nice with the V8 compared to the gutless 2.25. The sounds is great too. Really pleased with the exhaust system. Got a pair of rad fans today that I will hook up in the week. Just need to get the power steering pipes sorted and its all done. The front end does seem much lighter and sits higher now. Shows up the tired rear springs even more so will be going for a new set of springs and dampers next I think. Need to get out and get it muddy now! Stu
  7. Yep they look like what I need! Will go searching for some on ebay!
  8. Well, another update but this one is the best. Its running!!! Finally! Got a few things to tidy up tomorow like how to get the power steering pipes to fit (think I will just get some new ones made up). The stainless exhaust sounds lovely and sure it will get louder with a bit of mileage too. Need to get a couple of electric fans too and will change the gear/transfer box oil before using it. I need a power steering pulley too so will stick a wanted ad in the classifieds to see if someone has one laying about. Cheers for all the ideas and help I got off here. Stu
  9. OK, well its all going a bit more to plan now the engine mounts finally turned up. Got the full stainless and headers today too from Rimmer Bros. A very very nice piece of kit and fitted pretty well. Its a bit bling to be honest for a 20 year land rover as the centre box is fully polished!!!! Quite a small single box too so should sound nice I hope. Here is a picture of the headers and the centre box next to the wheel to give an idea on size (sunglasses required due to shine) Ive had to do a couple of mods today to get everything fitted up. Had to make a small adjustment to the front cross member to give me enough clearance from the exhaust on the passenger side. Also had to move the brake pipe distribution block as that fouls the exhaust on the drivers side. Other than that, I need to get a longer power cable to reach over the bellhousing to the other side for the V8 starter and then its a case of last bit of wiring, rear exhaust mount, fill her up with water, fit the new throttle cable (Thanks V8 freak again) and then we should have a runner tomorow. Fingers crossed.
  10. Depends where you take it for an MOT I guess.
  11. You could make a simple DIY kit. Ive done it before. You need: This would give you a setup that was triggered by 2 inputs.......Boost and Throttle. You could do just boost but it costs next to nothing to add throttle. 1. Boost pressure switch (about 15 quid) 2. Microswitch to detect full throttle 3. Pref 2 high pressure pumps in series to create the pressure 4. Some high pressure plastic 10mm tubing (steal from local pub) 5. Some 3mm high pressure plastic tubing 6. A water injector (about 10 quid from ERL stockists) 7. Couple of relays, a switch for dash and some wiring To be honest though, there some decent cheap ready to install kits around these days that probably dont cost much more than this lot. Wire all this lot up so that when the boost and throttle switched acttivate the relays, the pumps are switched on and hey presto. A bit simple but it works. The reason your landies feel faster on cold damp days is purely down to air temp and density. Creating that cold and damp air is exactly water water injection does. You could add methanol, but its main use is to lubricate pump parts than give anymore significant performance increase.
  12. Yep, I think your right. After all the praise for the colour and calls to keep it original I think a respray in the same Trident Green is now the way forward. Its got some nice chunkier wheels and tyres on it now too. Ive tried the T Cut and polish method but it just fades again really quick. Do you think I should leave the wheel arches in original black plastic or get them painted the same colour green?
  13. Flames generated by that method are cool. My Westy once warm trails huge yellow flames from the side exit exhaust which is about 2 feet from your head!!!! Flamer kits are lame, although could provide some serious fun fitted to to a Landy!!!! Sort of removes the boy racer aspect. Imagine this with a bit of wind and the flames licking up round the arch and your head!
  14. Youve been reading too many MaxPower magazines!!
  15. Hi, I run water injection on my 500 BHP Westfield Cosworth Controlled by the ECU, it injects a fine spray into the outlet area of the intercooler straight into the engine. Helps keep air charge temps down. Doubt you would see much (if any) performance increase on a Landy unless you were already producing very high air charge temps already? First step would be to fit a bigger intercooler really. Stu
